Downton was a guilty pleasure of mine for a while. When the characters I liked left by Season 3, so to did my interest.

If you're looking for other period dramas to watch, Vikings is a must-see. Easily the best show on television, period or otherwise.

hehe that is the exact reason i havent brought myself to start season 4, I ragequit at the last 10 seconds of the season 3 finale XD
who knows, I love the art of this show though, i may eventually pick it back up.

I have not seen much on Vikings! Ill have to check it out

You're not missing anything. Last three seasons have basically been the first three rehashed and dragged out much, much more.Β

Nice job! Although I haven't ever seen the show, strangely. You'd think, being British and all, I'd be on it like a weasel on a piece of bacon but no. Though the BBC 6-part adaptation of War and Peace looks like a stunner - keep your eyes peeled for that, definitely.

hehe BBC is my guilty pleasure. I love many shows they produce
Ill have to be on the look out for that War and Peace one!

Really Downton is beautifully done. Its a very interesting time period, you get to observe a lot of social evolution from
the eyes of everyone, from the aristocracy down to the servantsΒ

It IS well done but you have to remember it's a modern drama so there's a kind of "modern worldview" filter over the whole thing. Julian Fellowes is a clever man and a great writer but it's not easy to actually think in a different mindset. Still, Downton does it better than many

that is true. Its impossible to be completely unbiased, especially when youre talking about a time you didnt exist in,
but the detail to costumes and the whole "look" of the film is stunning.

Oh the style of the early 19th century was amazing! So many great designers too - iconic ones... and in France as much as England of course. And, if you like that sort of thing, the propaganda of the rising 3rd Reich was also pretty stunning stuff visually. Or tl;dr great art is stunning and great design is great art.
