Description
Ugh. I couldnt help myself. Been geting the urge to draw this OC more and more latley. Came up with this idea ages ago about a world similiar to our own, except mythical creatures you sometimes hear about are real (unbeknownst to the general public), with some possessing the ability to gift or 'bless' humans with their powers, effectivley turning them into proxies of sorts.
Although my knowledge about the lore around fox spirit mythology is pretty limited and surface level, I've always liked them (I blame being an anime fan). So one the first characters I came up with possessing a gift was Fennin.
What you see above is the form Fennin takes when fully utilizing his 'gift'. I'll do a version showing what he would normally look like later.
About Fennin - A cunning individual who seems to either view things either with relative disinterest or like an amused cat gauging a toy. He is polite and courteous rather than friendly, tending to keep people at a relative distance and is virtually always composed. He and his siblings are all bearers of the fox gift, and he currently possesses five of them, having obtained them from his siblings through various methods.
Fennin has made it his life's goal to obtain all the tails and end the curse, even though it has made him the black sheep and villain of the family.
About the fox spirit and the gift - Fox spirits are cunning, mischievous and intelligent as well as proud. Their most notable abilty is the ability to shape shift. They have an affinity for spiritual energy (rather than magical energy). The tails are its source of power, with a fox spirit growing stronger the older it gets and more tails it grows. Some use their powers to keep evil creatures in check whilst others cause trouble and mischief. Fox spirits are immortal (those with the gift are not immortal but live a hundred years for each tail)
Long ago Fennin’s ancestors greatly angered a fox spirit. In retaliation, the Fox Spirit tricked them, gifting them its power in the form of a curse that ensured its power would only ever manifest among nine siblings (one for each tail) who, in their greed, would be destined to fight and trick and steal their tails from one another. According to the myth, only when someone possesses all nine tails will the gift stop manifesting separately among siblings and causing strife.
Would love to make a webcomic around the idea one day but UGH. The commitment. Im not sure i have it in me X'D
