Description A section of the novel I am currently writing is set in this city and its surroundings. As stated in the title above, its name is Nym, and it is spelled like the French Nîmes.

The character portrayed in "Everything I have done" used to live in the ancient quarters of the city (SW corner) which were eventually burned and pillaged by the enraged mob.

The picture is generously brought at 25% of its original size. It started from a rough map for storytelling purposes, however it has changed into this... thing I am particularly proud of.

Perhaps someone may argue this one cannot be qualified as conventional art. All I can say in reply is, it conveyed to me the same feeling a drawing usually does.
Btw, a LOT of photoshop and handwork.

Edit- Nym is a very ancient city. Times of war, wealth, and social turmoil have shaped its structure and made it unlike any other. It's structure is three-folded, and yet every sector features several layers of history.

The original settlement was located around the great square in the S-Eastern section. Its encircling walls can still be seen, though they have been partially encapsulated by newer households. A stronghold on top of the hill was put in order to watch over the rivercrossing and the main road running across the upper section of the map.
After a long age of wars, the city fell into abandon and decay, until the former rulers of the region(which the tradition refer to be great Kings) granted command of this city to a group of Erdü. The Erdü were an exiled kin arrived from the other side of the known world, they had had their own language and culture, but they had proven to be extremely versatile and open-minded. They used their knowledge to bring new life to the city by restoring its ancient buildings and renaming it after their lost homeland, Nym. They created the city's most notable landmark, the Suntower, which you can notice on the N sector. People were then drawn back from their wretched lives in the nearby mountains, and the city began to grow despite continuous warfare in the region. The Erdü and their noblest families considered themselves lords of Nym and its surroundings, and built for themselves a number of great palaces in the S-W sector of the city. After several centuries of wealth, the Erdü were overthrown and massacred by the enraged native population. The Knights of the city, a powerful guild grown with the aid of the Erdü sparkled the fires of revolt and sectarian strife. They eventually cancelled most traces of existence of their former protectors, and established a new rule for their citystate.
Since the fires which destroyed the ancient Erdü palaces, Nym appears as it stood for 2 millennia, for it enjoys a formidable defensive system and no army can threaten it.

o.o! Very neat Curiosity, do you happen to do commissions for this sort of thing?

I'm imagining a Myth II map with tons of new models based off this design.

Too bad I gave up mapmaking some months ago. If you had come one year ago I would have been quite enthusiastic about your idea!

I can do all the loathing work, but the one thing i need desperately are color maps - just the photoshop end of the deal.

If you want to contribute to our project (www.myth4thewindage.com) by making a cmap, i'd be honored, but I know how much work is involved so no worries if you're busy.

well... actually I am not much willing to commit on something I cannot be sure to afford. Anyway, if you need a few colormaps to work on, I have a solo campaign project which I could not complete and dropped. You may extract what you need under my permission. The whole package should be still available somewhere (there are five neat colormaps, pregame music, unit conversions, a plot...much stuff you may recycle). If you are interested in, just send me a deviant-note and I will tell you where you can grab it and talk about permissions...

Afford? No money involved here, but if you mean you cant afford to spend the time on it, then that's completely understandable.

I would like to see your campaign though. Any chance I may have heard of it through The Mill or Fileball or one of the other myth related map resources?

I'll note you.

yes, that's exactly what I mean. I have not much time to spend, and it'd be a shame to make a promise and find myself unable to fulfil it. So it is rather convenient for us to use what's ready (and let me assure you, there's pretty much stuff).

As for the solo campaign, I started my project all alone in 2001, but never mentioned publicly on any of the forums (I am very shy guy). In 2006, for the first time I released a rough version with a coop clan (the nine), and shared it with a handful of trusted players.

The Nine? I play with those guys all the time. Did Fury test it?

Maybe I could snag a version off of him

BTW your map is now my desktop until something cooler comes along. It's been a while and I still haven't found something cooler. It might be there a while

the last beta is stored at [link] : search for guildenstern's uploads in the user uploads folder. You should find everything you need to play over there.

Holy crap it's on uDogs?! That's my main myth developer hangout! Man, do you have a myth account? Maybe I know you from bungie.net (or rather, playmyth/marius.net). What handle did you go by?

You can find me on mariusnet as (Dr.) Guildenstern. I 've been playing M2 regularly since 2005, after upgrading my connection to dsl. I used to pop in and out at the times of bungie.net, but never played as much as I currently do. Btw, I bought Myth TFL in christmas 1997, and I would still play it on multiplayer, if somebody else wanted too!

Reminds me of the old board game Sanctuary ([link] ) - it was dead good.

Anyway, this is a great map. Great style.

thank you so much, fm-vorassi.
In a certain way, as the city map unfolded under my hands, I had that feeling of immersion only a weekend evening spent on an rpg with a bunch of good friends could give.

Fantastic stuff!
I recently went to Kawagoe, which has a lot old original Japanese buildings standing. Anyway, the city museum has a scaled model of its city back in the day of Edo Japan. Had every building, road and field marked, like back in the day... just like you`ve done here.
Great work.

Thank you!

Sadly, the picture size does not allow to fully appreciate the fine grain details I have put. It hurts me, for I have spent hours (or even days) after designing rooftops buildings, creating courtyards, naming places and streets. At a closer look one may notice that Nym features several layers of history, and most buildings have been built upon more and more ancient structures, and they have been subject of notable facts, or half forgotten folklore. (If you don't mind a few Italian writings I may post a close up of the city in my scraps section).

Nym is basically a world built around my characters. It was originally conceived as reference stuff for a difficult scene (Maya - the young lady in "Everything I have done" was to wander through the streets). It has eventually become the best way to explore what these characters have sought and felt.

Some close ups of this pic would be superb. Please do if you can. Possibly put some links to it from here? Let others know how much work you really put into this.

Awesome! Thanks for that... hope I didn`t sound pushy. The closeups were great to check out. Really brought extra depth to this piece. Ever thought of making a DnD world with it, per chance? Your theme and style would easily fit into it. Thanks again.

A friend of mine came up right with a similar suggestion! Though I find it appealing - and the background story will certainly allow me to do so - I can't focus and devote myself to such a project... well, not yet

Don't worry about "sounding pushy". On the contrary, I was really happy to show more stuff. The story I am working on, is something I am really fond of, but it is also something I have been very secretive about. To be honest, I was a bit afraid: posting stuff like maps and is quite unusual here, and not so many people are so interested in the story (or even in the reasoning) behind a picture...
