Wat. That makes no sense. I mean its somewhat implied and has more ingame support than a bucketload of other nintendo pairings that exist.
From what I've been told by several credible people, its canon in the Japanese version too (its definitley way popular there too).

I think both of them actually are older than they appear, (the bartender at the end of the game says she's either a failed pixl or was a witch, which would mean she'd have to be created by the writer of the Dark Prognosticus or similar, and he is like one of the people of the ancients, or possibly the writer himself. There's more stuff in the Japanese version). So presumedly they're both a lot older than they let on, BUT also I think it's clear they're both capable of showing a different physical age, kind of like immortals or whatever. The way they act, I'd say they're both young adults, 15, 16-25 area. Kind of like 'Tuck Everlasting', for lack of a better comparison, lol.
