Description
The Dawn of Time No-one is sure how Rengarth came into existence. Over billions of years energy and matter coalesced into suns and a planet and a moon. Rengarth wasn’t just a world, however. It was also a God, as was the triple sun, and the moon that circled the planet, and the darkness that surrounded it.
The world of Rengarth is surrounded by a shell. This shell isn’t a physical barrier as such, it exists as energy, and separates the world from other planes of existence. Only a release of great power could allow anything from outside to pass through the shell, but that is what happened on Rengarth, as Parian, the God of the Suns, Illanon, the Goddess of the Moon, and Rengarth himself, God of the Earth united their powers to make the world come to life. Water came to the surface of the world, along with warmth and air. Parian, Illanon and Rengarth united and created an offspring – Nybavian, the First Dragon. With the birth of Nybavian came an explosion of life across the surface of the world in the form of trees and plants. Life grew across the world, filling every corner, striving for the light and for water to nourish itself. Some evolved to become stronger while others evolved to consume weaker plants. Nothing could stop the spread of life and eventually this developed into the First War – a war for survival. It saddened the Gods to witness what their creation had become. Nybavian tried to help by consuming much of the plant life in an attempt to control the overcrowding, but life itself was out of control. It took the intervention of another to bring balance to the world.
Another God had been watching. Naiir, the God of Darkness created ‘The Blight’ and sent it to the world. Rengarth himself howled in pain as The Blight reached the world’s surface. The Blight killed everything it touched. While it was effective in driving back the life that covered the surface of the world, neither Parian nor Illanon could accept such an affront to their creations, nor witness their suffering as The Blight killed all that it came into contact with. Illanon protected all life that dwelt within the waters of the world, decreeing that The Blight could not penetrate that element. Then Parian sent a ball of flame to scorch the earth and kill The Blight. Rengarth suffered from the pain, but it was nothing compared to what he had suffered from The Blight itself. Scarred, but alive, Rengarth took the ashes of death into himself, and brought forth new life. But Naiir’s legacy would continue. Though The Blight had been destroyed, he had brought something to the world that would remain forever – Mortality.
It took time, but the other Gods learned the value of what Naiir had brought to their creation. As new life was spawned, old life passed and made way for the new. When all were content that the world would live on, Parian, Illanon, Nybavian and Naiir withdrew from the world, passed through the barrier, and retreated to the D’Z’rn Plane, to watch from beyond. Only Rengarth remained behind.
