Movement, colour, composition...all great!

i saw this image amongst :devmibilia:'s journal feature, and i must say, it was the most striking piece...more for the lack of aesthetic appeal than anything. this is not necessarily a criticsm, for we want art to be striking and provocative, and for a simple landscape shot of the sea, i find this very much so. there is a lot of discord in the colours, such that one moment they are striking orange and green, but the next they appear muddy with a mere change of focus. even the orange/blue pairing in the sky clashes instead of complements (the blue is a little too teal to look good with a pinkish orange... and i do wonder if this colour of blue is the result of editing).
either way, it is a gripping shot for the fact that i can find such a nice capture of colour so very ugly and appealing at the same time. haha.

Okay. I'm I the only one who thinks that this ocean would be yummy to drink? What I'm trying to say is,this looks absolutely surreal. The ocean looks like it could be lime and orange flavored soda pop. ( and the clouds make me think of cotton candy )

wow! That's so beautiful, the ocean is such an amazing thing. I read once in a picture book I had when I was little that the ocean can be like a sleeping cat, calm and gentle, or like an angry lion, vicious and violent......I think here it's more like a cat, getting ready to sleep.

Man, you just keep getting better and better. This is really outstanding. Are you still shooting with a 40/50D? Or did you move up to a 5D?
The exposure and timing are stunning. Great movement in the foreground, wonderful color and contrast. My only real complaint is the somewhat 50:50 composition, with the horizon being nearly centered. Still, awesome.
Do you ever print much? How large of prints do you actually make?

Thanks man. Still shooting the 40d. Website coming very soon with all print sizes and costs. I've only printed 16x24 myself but everyone keeps telling me to go bigger

Yeah, the problem with shooting bigger is that it really does require more resolution to sustain quality. I found the limit with my 5D (classic) was right around 20x15. Anything less than about 200 DPI is just not good enough. I'm surprised you're still rocking the 40D, though. I'd imagine you'd have sold enough for the justification of a better sensor? Are you using a printing service (Bay Photo, etc.) to handle your prints, or have you purchased a printer? I've been thinking about an Epson 7900 or something along those lines, but I've yet to pull the trigger.
