Clickhole article reference aside, I made this doodle of the Sponge for 2 reasons

1. to try drawing him again because I last drew him in 2015 (He's still off model but what can you do?)
and 2. To make a proper piece as tribute for Hillenburg's legacy.

I've never seen his previous work on Rocko's Modern Life, but as a youngun, I fell in love with Spongebob Squarepants, his silly misadventures and his wacky bunch of friends. My favorite character was Patrick. I had DVDs, 3 as a matter of fact (SeaScape Capers, Absorbing Favorites and Where's Gary?), I played the games (I only owned SuperSponge and Revenge of the Flying Dutchman on GBA (the Double Pack) and PS2 but I played the games up to Atlantis Squarepantis on Wii), I had the merch (books and sticky Spongebob and Patrick toys that got all grimey) and I loved the first movie, I really want to see the second one, SpongeBoom: Rise of Burgerbeard (I ain't touching Superpants on Vita)...

Over time, my interest in shows like the Fairly Oddparents and Steven Universe would fade, but for whatever reason, I still enjoy watching Spongebob, I could say that this show is what inspired me to make cartoons... Even though I take after Invader Zim and OK KO in terms of art style, this is the show that built my humor and creativity and I couldn't have it any other way. Thank you Stephen for creating a wonderful cartoon.
