It came from the ice, at first just as a dog.
If none of us make it, I hope you find this log.
It fooled us, it wore us, it tried to outsmart.
The Thing from the stars tried to keep us apart.
One by one we fell to this disguising pest.
So we had to sit down and do a blood test.
Our camp was a mess, the way out set to burn.
With the generator broken we had nowhere to turn.
Down to the last of us this Thing had worked hard.
As the ice overtook us we kept up our guard.
We last two sat in the snow as the camp burned away.
Maybe we shouldn't make it is all I could say.
So we'll wait and we'll wait as my tired sight becomes blurred.
But as the cold takes my bones, was that the dog I just heard?
