Description
What started out as a lesson to teach my daughter how to use pencil blenders became an experiment in whether or not similar shading techniques would work using Copics on top of said pencil. Now, this is a photo, not a scan and even though I tried to mute it slightly, this looks WAY brighter in the photo than the original actually does. I would say the facial shading and most of the shading elsewhere was successful but there were a couple of issues, most notably a blue Copic that bled on one of her gloves. I tried to fix it with shading and the blender as best I could but try not to look too hard at that.

I know most people don't care for realistic looking Homestuck characters but I wanted to see if I could achieve semi-realism with the markers and try out a few ways to provide depth like avoiding hard lines where I could (I think the technique for making the hat fuzzy turned out fairly well, no?). I'm really hoping for a Homestuck resurgence now that Hiveswap is out; I do miss seeing new HS art on my dash here and on Tumblr and maybe this will be part of a revival of sorts?
