If Marvel ever brings the X-23 series back, there ought to be an issue where Laura gets to recover Sarah's body or remains and bury them. That would be some nice closure.

It was over 5 years ago though. Granted it was also a very cold area though too and the facility would probably store her remains for future cell harvesting... Like shotgunning mystery woman that created a better trigger scent maybe? Unless that's some other X-23 thing tied to future hell adventures.

I'm leaning towards one of those two myself.
On one side, I think she's a clone of the mother because the facility does like screwing with Laura's head, and half Laura's genes are her mother's anyway. So in re-creating the perfect weapon you'd want that other half.
If she's Future Laura(oh I have tons of ideas for that! But I'll stick to simple for now), I think the smartest easiest way is it might be tied to Mephisto using the favor Laura owes him to make her do some missions for him. Which leads to her asking about arsenal, and even her crisscrossing her own timeline but without using her claws so it doesn't reflect. This would explain the need for enhancing triggerscent and with her already knowing she defeats herself, that new triggerscent can be used to make demons kill each other maybe or similar type potential.
It can get more complicated from other directions though. Including a demonic power/unipower forced split. The unipower symbol being cut off and growing its own Laura body to make it's perfect sword(hence no claws). And even more still possibilities. Including just straight up future alternate reality trying to make itself come into existence(like avengers academy had) and more.

And if its a future version of Laura it still toys with the idea that Laura could go bad... I'm definitely hedging my bets on it being Laura's possible future self.

Oh definitely. It's an outright scifi mainstay. Except they all used goatees... But hey! No one wants to see X-23 with that... I think.
