Steve Blum is a delightful voice actor, and Amon is a compelling character. Nyesss. I'm still fond of "I lift men twice my size one handed without blinking about it" Korra, mind, but Amon is very compelling.

Now that I've actually seen Legend of Korra, I was really disappointed with how the first season ended. Putting aside all the antagonist character motivation yoyoing all over the place in that finale, Amon was a fantastic and scary bad guy. Not because of his scary powers but because he might have been right, and I feel like that part of the plot dropped off the table.
It's like the writers just decided to paint all the benders as victims, like they were unjustly accused of oppressing non-benders, when it would have been much more interesting to watch the Avatar, the most powerful bender in the world, struggle with the possibility that Amon might be right about the oppression. But the story just devolved into a "fight and beat the bad guy because he's bad" story. We had the potential of sinking our teeth into a meaty ethical dilemma that could have left us reeling and not sure who to support. But maybe I'm weird because I like ethical dilemmas that make my brain hurt. Philosophers must be brain masochists.

Amon/Noatak was totally awesome in the finale but such a sad backstory D: A little bit cliche maybe, but it didn't make it any less sad. I feel so bad for Tarlok too
