I had been meaning to draw Tanya for a long long time, so I thought I'd finally get around to her~!One of my favorite little details in An American Tale is how Tanya's name was changed to Tilly when the Mousekewitz family immigrated to America. Awesome touch.
Also Tanya's babushka is adorable and it makes me happy.
I do love the sequel for AAT (even though it is completely tonally different from the first film), and did consider drawing Tanya as she appeared in that film, but ultimately I could not resist the babushka.Kidz --> mistytang.deviantart.com/galleβ¦

Why did they do that? Tanya's name didn't sound that hard to pronounce

From what I know about immigration and Ellis island there's a few possible explanations. Some names were really hard to write/pronounce, some people couldn't even communicate their names to the inspectors (language barrier), and there were thousands of people coming in. "Tilly" would have been a more familiar name than Tanya and would be easier/faster to write.

(Fievel Goes West is the only animated sequel in the known universe that I love -substantially- more than the original). A gem indeed!

The sequel is a lot of fun! It's completely different from the first one, but not in a bad way. It's a light-hearted romp. Totally worth seeing.

Tanya is great in both! I do love in the second one when she has her big hilarious singing bit with all the cats.

The second one is a delightful romp! It's a fun happy little movie, and I love it a lot.
