"There was a city once, called Eden. It was the first city ever built, before all else: the Mesopatamians, the Egyptian pyramids, before agriculture was even a dream on Earth. You know it in your legends as a paradise. It was built by daemons and humans, and the Fall from Grace was a very real thing."

Concept for the character Furvos Nigh. I went back to my ink lines on this, but went ultra-thin on my lineart, and used tha cheat method of working big: 4000 pixels. I shall keep trying to improve my lines, I just can't seem to stay away from ink. There is something mundanely comforting about scales, I was proud of how these turned out. I still have my first Photoshop pictures where I was cutting and pasting his scales. "Bearcat" is what I try to keep in mind when doing Nigh, although he's based off of a Fu Dog, one of the most intriguing creatures of the East. His face remains my biggest challenge of all the nonhuman characters: I want a perfect balance between the squashed and blocky Fu Dog look and a leonine countenance.

Nigh as a character has evolved only a little bit, he was intended to be an Elite, a bodyguard type that had all the Zen of a martial arts master. He is now the group nerd, a know-it-all who uses big words and is never at a loss for explaining the history of an object, myth, belief, or root word. He's a gentle giant, the leader of the group, but not really cut out for it. He'd rather be at home reading a book with his pince-nez glasses.
