Description
This was an environment painting I did when I started thinking of the intro movie for my new company. I knew I wanted something desolate and lonely so I decided to go for a barren wasteland. I worked from a photo I took a while back to get my snow and colors to look real and authentic. As I always say working from real life is immensely beneficial because you pick up details which would be otherwise lost by just working from one's head.Related content

Yeah, I guess if it wasn't based off of one I wouldn't get the colors and snow textures to look like that. Wouldn't it be cool if I could do that off the top of my head? Your art (especially the new Lee Chaolan stuff) is amazing and looks just as good as any CG stuff I've seen. I remember you said you used references on some of that stuff so I got inspired to do more as well. It can only help us as artists after all

there is absolutely nothing wrong with using referances, that's really the only way to learn how to do that stuff off the top of your head

Hey, thanks a lot for the kind words HakuyaChan! I've always known that working with references helped tremendously but I never really knew how helpful they really were unitl I started using them in my works! You just see so much more than you can from just your own mind. At least that's the way it's always been with me. Thanks again and awesome quote. One of my favorite's from Bruce.
