Description
The M-59 is the successor to the M-56 caseless SMG and was built to address some key issues, the greatest being heat. Like the M48A1, the M-56 heats up extremely fast, and unless you have water and time to wait for the 2 minute cool down period it's a major problem. The solution is the same as the M48A2, and that is aero-foam. Because of its air pockets, aero-form is very light. The ingredients in the foam also give it the ability to absorb heat and dissipate it easily, along with causing a chemical reaction that makes the air trapped inside its air pockets 20 degrees cooler then the air outside them. This makes aero-foam an ideal heat sink. The only problem is that the aero-foam is sealed in a heat sink barrel inside the gun. To save weight the designers of the M-59 decided to scrap the clunky M48A2 chiller and went for a more direct approach. When the a clip runs dry and the charging handle snaps back. When the operator presses the button to eject the clip, the top of the stock pops open revealing vents for cooling. Believe it or not the designer of this mechanism actually got the idea from the halo plasma pistol when he was playing halo. Once the operator loads a fresh clip he closes the stock and continues firing. This drops the cool down time to 4 seconds.
