I didn't know sniper rifles could go up to 30mm. Whoever is using that gun must get some massive recoil everytime he fires.

oh yeah, lots of people use high cal. rounds. Barret made a 25mm once, had a hard time finding the pic and there's the south african NTW-20. It fires a 30mm round and was used by bungie as an insperation for the halo sniper rifles.

So I'm guessing that none of these weapons of this caliber are for anti-personell usage, correct?

well no, but they can be. And when they do, they make a nice, big mess...

So I suppose these rifles can destroy a lightly armored vehicle like a jeeps in a single hit, though. Or a small ammo shed or something.

yeah, maybe even some tanks, depending on the armor on them. You have to put this in perspective. The 30mm and 25mm are both used in aircraft. The 30mm is used in the Apache and the A-10. Both can easily rip apart a tank. The 25mm is used in most other aircraft and attack choppers and they can both do some serious damage as well. Put those in some sniper rifles and you have some seriously powerful sniper systems.

Dang. So I would suppose then that modern tanks would have some sort of anti-aircraft measures then, or would travel in a group with a mobile anti-aircraft unit, along with a couple guys with some good binoculars to seek out potential snipers or soldiers wielding RPGs.

Well right now in Iraq our tanks don't need anti-air support but yeah depending on the mission and if there's a chance of air craft in the area then a unit will pack some sort of anti-air support. As for the binoculars, alot of that is automated now.

And the whole point of a sniper is stealth, so if they can see u then ur not a good sniper.

Ah, ok. No wonder snipers are always under some sort of cover at all times. It would be very bad news for him if he was found by a machinegun squad.
