how can i turn on and off the visibility of the layers?...

Pikachufan2882 In reply to chibachiaki [2012-04-02 15:06:46 +0000 UTC]
Hi Chibachiaki,
Well there should be an eye icon next before the layers name, and to toggle the visibility of the layers, all you have to do is click on the eye. When the eye is visible, the layer is visible and vice versa.
Hope I helped!

Hi cindy0750,
When you say you 'cant figure out how to get pictures into gimp' do you mean your own pictures? If so, click on the file button and a drop down menu should appear then you can just click on open and open your file. If you mean how to make an image, you can click on file (again) then click new and specify the dimensions of your "canvas". Or if its just a picture online, you can copy and paste it.
Hope I helped and reply back to tell me if it worked or not!

On gimp there should be a button at the top that says Colors, click that then scroll click on desaturate/ color balance.
Hope I Helped!

There is a much simpler way by just making a second layer of your main image and then use colorize. But this is a great one as well. ^.^ Love the colors you chose.

I found another easier way:
[link]
you can skip the black and white part and do it for the normal skin tone. It works great~!

BlueSkies21 [2010-10-16 14:13:44 +0000 UTC]
Oh wait, I think I understand now what happened. I think it's that my top layer didn't erase to transparency... it just erased to white. How do I prevent that from happening? :/

Hi there. I noticed there are already a lot of unanswered comments on here (you probably got tired of answering them all, hah) but if you have a second, I'd appreciate it if you would help me out. So I was trying to follow this tutorial and even though people are saying there is an easier way, i'd like to try this one. I got to step 11 alright. Okay, so on my top layer (with the eye and the hole) I selected everything around the hole right? And then, do I fill it in with black on that layer or on the middle blank layer? And then which layer is set to overlay? The top, middle, or bottom layer? I can't get mine to turn out the way it's supposed to... I just see the colored version, without the normal background.

Hi! I'm confused on step 4. I don't understand what you mean when you say "delete the eye in the duplacate layer"?? I guess what I'm asking is how do you delete the eye???

Click the small eye at the begining of each of your different layers... [you can turn it on and off again by clicking it once more etc, and you can also undo that move with 'edit; undo']

Hope an experienced Gimper can elaborate on this tutorial as regards my query below.
The instruction in step 10 says to create a new layer in between the color layer ( the bottom layer ) and the top layer ( the eye cut out layer ).
Subsequently, there is no further mention of any action done to this layer. It appears redundant. Are there some steps missing in the above tutorial?
Thanks for any help forthcoming.

You could just select the area, then color it. It's much easier and faster than using layers and such.

well DROZ, I appreciate your efforts at this tutorial and I got to admit that I am pretty new to the GIMP world. a Month or so. However, I think you have made this tutorial more complicated than required.
β’You could have simply used paths to select around the iris β’Then click on the brush and use the colour you want β’Just use the 'colour' mode and you can simply rub it over the selection to colour the whole thingy.
Isn't that just easier?
