It's really sad we have lost someone like him. Though I really dont know that mucha bout him, what I do know will live on forever in me. He will be missed.

No... that's just what he told people because he always carried suitcases filled with drugs with him. (He tended to be a bit baked when he wrote.)
He was a writer for Rolling Stone in the 60's/70's. He pioneered what is known as "Gonzo Journalism." He wrote several books, including "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." Johnny Depp plays him dead on in the film version of that.
Long story short, he's probably one of the most influencial writers of the 20th Century... and see Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas!
