Splinter's pov
I must say, Tiffany has been handling a certain situation pretty well. but she does have moments that just tare me apart. for someone I am meant to protect, I fail to protect her emotions.
I woke up to a dry throat and went into the kitchen for water. walking back to my room, I heard sniffling and sobbing. I opened the door where it was coming from. it was Tiffany crying on her couch in her room. "My Dear, are you okay?" she only continued her sobbing. "Dear?" I walked up to her bed to find her sleeping. she was really crying in her sleep. I shook her but she did not wake up. figuring it was going to be another long night, I got on the couch beside her then behind so her head was on my chest and I held her in my arms. her Mohawk tickled my nose so I petted it out of the way. "Dear, please wake." I shook her a tad more rougher. she woke up with a start and looked around.
after discovering where she was, she looked up at me. "whats going on?"
"you were crying. are you okay?"
"...fine." she smiled.
I sighed. "it wounds me to hear you lie. now, tell me."
"well, it was my dream. I guess."
"what happened in this dream?"
"I cant say."
"what? why not?"
"I... have to be strong."
"for what reason?"
"if I tell you, I cant be strong. with that, I'll be weak. I cant be weak. not now."
I held my hand to her wet cheek. "My Dear, true strength is you admitting something so another may assist you. if you tell me, I can help you get stronger."
she looked to me with watery eyes and put her forehead on my shoulder. "I miss him..."

it was snowing outside. the worst snow in many years. Shifu and I sat in the living room watching television. the weather man continued on about cold weather and more snow. I heard Shifu groan. the phone began to ring. we have always been carful with the phone because the risks of people finding us. I checked the called ID and seen the familiar of our darling doctor Tiffany. "hello?"
"hi." she meekly said. I could hear the others around her scream and talk loudly on the bus.
"is everything alright? you never call on the bus."
"I was hoping someone could walk with me today."
"alright. let me ask him." I covered the talking end on the phone and shouted to my ring tailed friend. "would you like to escort Tiffany home today?"
"no way!" he shouted back.
I chuckled before answering her no he would not. hearing sigh made me change my mind. "I will come in a few minutes."
"thanks."
at the stop, I hid in the trees and waited. when she got off, she ran to me. she gave me a smile as I jumped down to her. this smile...it was different. it was a sad smile. "how was your day?"
"fine...I guess..."
"is there anythi-" I was silenced by the shock for her grabbing my arm in hers and having her head on my shoulder. not knowing what to do next, I just grabbed her hand with my hand from my free arm. we walked home just like that.

"miss who?" I asked before swallowing the lump in my throat.
she looked up at me with a face that said 'your joking, right?' "don't make me say his name."

later that night, I went to talk to her. something was not right. she was not eating, smiling, making jokes, or even drawing. she never even played with her scissors today. I was about to knock on her door when I heard her talking. I leaned in closer. "I know but I don't think I can make it...because I just cant handle it...I know but you seen me today. what makes you think I can see him like that?" I heard her ask. "I just...I know but...okay, I guess your right...I'll try...bye."
I waited moments before opening the door. "My Dear, is everything alright?"
she gave me that same smile. "perfect." she threw the phone on the couch and fell on it beside the phone. she groaned while smothering her face in a pillow.
I walked up to her. she slowly covered her eyes and looked up to me. "what happened?"
she sighed. "I...we lot someone last night. my welding class. a friend went into surgery and... he didn't make it. he-..." her eyes began to water. "he is...gone."
"oh, Darling." I sat beside her and held her in my arms. she only sat still as stone looking ahead. "at least he is in a better place." her lip quivered but she stood up. "when is the..."
"this Saturday. the showing is Friday."
"are you going?"
"I have no choice. if I don't... I will never forgive myself nor will they."
~flash back over~
"where do you think we go after death, Splinter?" she asked.
I was expecting this after some time. "well... I know you have your stars but I believe we reunite with our loved ones in a special place."
"like heaven?"
"kind of. I know when I go, or hope, that I will reunited with my Master Yoshi."
"and Shifu?"
"that is something you must ask him."
~flashback~
I brought her to the showing. I waited by tall trees and watched through a window. they spoke of the boy with praise and odd stories. I particularly remember the one about him eating ketchup packets like yogurt tubes. she and her classmates walked up to the casket in a line. each had a metal rose they each made in the class. slowly, Tiffany made her way up to the boy. she stared at him for a moment before whipping under her eyes with haste. each placed a rose next to him. after that, they walked up to a shelf showing his welding mask, his first and last project, and pictures of him.
I kept my eyes on my girl. she stared at the shelf and covered her mouth. I noticed tears running down her cheeks. it hurt me to see her cry. however, as soon as she began to cry, a boy next to her in a suit and tie pulled her to his side rather roughly and held her. she was shocked and looked up at her classmate. he looked at her with sad eyes. she placed her head on his chest and cried into him. he never let her go while she did so.
I had seen enough. I honestly began to cry myself. seeing her break down made my heart ache and knowing I could not hold her at that moment hurt more then anything. I silently thanked the young man for this act.
when it was time to leave, she looked down to her hand. I wondered what she was thinking until she went back to his casket. she kept her eyes averted from him but placed her favorite ring with him. she loved that ring. she left the room and her fallen friend with nothing more but a broken heart.
~flashback over~
I held her as she pondered something. "Splinter?" she looked up at me. "we have been riding the same bus that me and Anthony met on. when I got on, the song I played on my Ipod started to play on the radio. I don't understand but I cried. I cry every time I get on that bus."
"of course you would. that is the one place you would remember him most."
"when I think of him, my heart hurts. like there is a hole. and around that hole, it burns and aches. I feel like a piece of me was ripped out. it hurts, Splinter." her eyes watered. I held her close while she struggles to get free.
"do not fight it anymore." I said while rubbing her back with one hand and holding her head on my shoulder. I felt her breath in fast before her frame shook. "I know, My Dear..." we fell asleep like that.
too many bad things happen to good people. and that effects the ones they loved. I can only hope in the future we can prevent deaths to the young and protect the innocent like we should.
