Description And so we have reached the beginning of the first major fight scene in the Kolodruidtale: Epilogues, webcomic. I feel like I'm getting better with adding textures and shading, as well as solid blacks to these panels. The images don't look as sparse as they did before. Also, you can definitely see more black and shading in various places, like the blood spatter on Seargant Occrutz, as well as the various lens reflections on the gun that Howard is holding.

Still, there are some things that are unacceptable here. For example, Crantz's hairline is unacceptably light. The receptor on sarge's helmet is black and shiny in the first panel, but is not in the second. The whole image is littered with small errors like this.

Having said this, however, I don't necessarily regard this as a bad thing. I think that, one of the biggest differences between a professional manga artist and a strong amateur is that the professional won't make all these little mistakes. The thing is, it takes a veritable mountain of work to get from being a strong amateur to being a professional.

Thus, the next big step is to get good enough where all these small errors are purged away from the work. The last few hundred feet to becoming a truly good skilled artist takes 90% of the effort, so to speak.

I'd like to take this moment to talk about just what I want from Kolodruidtale. With this webcomic, I want to push the boundaries of what can be done within the scope of your traditional manga. Also, full disclosure, I'm not exactly Japanese. I grew up in South Texas, and am very well versed in Western culture. Thus, taking the various elements of the Japanese style and traditional manga tropes, It has become perfectly obvious to me that this particular story is going to diverge from the traditional Japanese elements.

There's no way around this. Hell, if you look at my art and linework, you can see that it is already diverging markedly from the typical Japanese manga style. I'm not sure exactly where it will end up, but I am sure that the end result will be something uniquely all my own.
