Description Again a jumping spider, but a different one than the others.

It is always a fun session trying to get a good picture as they keep jumping onto the lens of the camera. I get about half my shots blank as they have just jumped or silhouettes of them on the lens.

Excellent! I tried to get pics of these spiders but they were too fast to get an appropriate focus on them.

What lense did you use?

Hi,
Thanks for your comment. I use a Sigma 18-50 zoom with an old 50mm lens reversed on the front. Have a look in my scraps [link] for a picture. I now have a home-made ring flash instead of the yoghurt pack reflector. This gives me much better lighting on the face but an unusual ring effect on the eyes.

They are great little spiders but so hard to photograph as they are always on the go.

I only hand hold my camera as I have to keep the camera moving to follow the spiders and to try and focus. i leave the camera on a fixed focus using manual then just bring the camera to the focus point. Can be hit and miss but I get some great shots.

Hehehe that's a funny construction but an efficient one judging from the results. I think I'll try to do something similar with the flash. Until now, every macro of mine has been shot without flash but I'm willing to change that when the pictures get better. Thanks for sharing your ideas

Hi. Thanks for the fav on G'day and comment. No, I don't keep them as pets. I find them, take their portraits then let them go. I have kept redbacks for a long time but these little jumping spiders are too cute to keep in captivity. It is more fun to watch them outside hunting.
