Those pretty purple eyes make the robots look rather friendly. Interesting.

Really interesting concept that the South was allowed to secede, I'd always thought about that, what with living in the South. Do you have an idea what state this would be set in?

... i love and hate alternate realities. love because it is fun to imagine how certain events can change the future so drastically, and hte because it reminds me that my reality is such a thin strand of chance occurrences and key points.
also, I think I see a hint at racial issues in the background of the last panel...

Haha, don't worry about the last panel. There's no race issue going on there. Just another robot handing out a free flag.

huh. apparently it changes down south too. Which makes me wonder what other issues prevent the American countries from combining again.

Yup. Slavery was of course an issue between the North and South, but there were a lot of other problems between the two that lead to the South wanting to secede in the first place.
In this alternate timeline we can just assume that the governments are too different at this point to ever want to annex.

fair enough. sorry, but history and politics is one of my intruges, and now I'm trying to picture immigration laws and how the treaties go and such. and how Europe fared with their conflicts.

North and South are split in this comic?

Yup! Different countries.

We'll see what other weird little things I can put in as time goes on. :-D

The Confederacy, possessing lots of farmland and sensibly lots of robotic/mechanical workers to tend said farmland, repurposed said robots for combat and won the Civil War.
Either that or Otto lives in the early 1900s southern Georgia town of Cold Sassy, but I'm guessing the former.

huh. In either case, is it correct to assume human slavery was replaced/phased out by the more complacent and durable and much less ethically questionableΒ robotic alternative?

Horizontal traffic lights? Robots with confederate flags? Like I said, Zime. It's the small details that bring a sense of realism or plausibility to what is essentially a science fiction story. Keep it up!

Thanks!
Where Jaclyn and I are living in Texas they have horizontal traffic lights, so that's where that inspiration comes from. It's like we live in bizzaro world!

Of course it's bizarro, it's Texas.

This has been really interesting so far. Definetly looking forward for more. Also is that the Confederate flag? So does that mean that in this timeline/universe the Confederate States won?

Close! In my little timeline I decided that the North just let the South secede. So, no civil war.
