Description Here's a new one! It's my girl Sophie, all decked out as the Ptera Ranger, from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger!

First, a little back story: Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger (Dinosaur Task Force/Squadron Zyuranger) was the first of Toei's popular Super Sentai tv shows to be translated for the US. Well, translated is not really the word. It's more like 'the first etc etc. to have it's stock footage and costumes sent over to the US to be butchered by Saban as they saw fit'. And so it began, our country's love-hate relationship with the Super Sentai. In every series since, the US publishers of the show have (to greater and lesser degrees) tampered with some aspect of the show to make it more palatable to the American viewers, resulting in a program that is intrinsically worse than the original. This is not to say that all Super Sentai Series have been magnificent works of cinematic art, but it is true that each one of them is better than its American counterpart.

Here Sophie is wearing the costume of Mei, the only female member of the Zyuranger team (You heard me! There was only one girl in the original version! That's right! The yellow Tiger Ranger was a boy! Coincidentally, so was his name.) Mei, princess of the ancient Reisha kingdom, was frozen along with her comrades for 140 million years (!) until she was revived in present day (1992-93) Japan to do battle with the witch Bandora, and her dark master Dai-Satan!

This turned out so darn well, that I've decided to do a series of pics of Sophie in the garb of the (or one of the) female sentai from every series to date! (Give or take a few.) Whaddya think?

You mean Griforza? That's his official zyuranger name. In Japan he was a much cooler character; Instead of a bumbling nitwit he was Witch Queen Bandora's (Rita's) second in command and captain of the guard. Griforza (or Griforzer) wielded the legendary sword Grifocalibur IV, and was married to Lami, a powerful warrior who could transform herself into a giant scorpion. Mid way through the series they had a son, who was not named. They just refuse to give the characters any depth in the American versions, don't they?

I paused the sattelite tv thingy for an hour so I could get a good look at a reference.

Eh, it wasn't so bad. The hardest part was drawing her boots. When you've got much thicker calves, it's hard to get the little diamond-thingies to look right.

True, but thicker calves make it worth it. They still came out great.
