Nothing. He's still there, living on the farm.

As much as I want the @$$ chicken to die you don't do that to brother's half or not.
But I still want @$$ chicken to die for hurting Lil Lu.

You know, if Rust wasn't abusive to a child, it would be much easier to accept his actions. Revenge for what seems to be the one family member that treated him right and stood up for him...
But instead he acts toward the child how the people who were bad to him acted to him. And he didn't even wait until the child bonded with Tempest! It stated before that. Sigh. Rusty...

Oh, well. For some sad reason that's how it often is, a person who experienced pain and humiliation now feels is charge. But Rusty has some tiny bits of sympathy for Lu. He's just a bit unhinged to express it properly.

I would like Rust not to be lost forever because of the inconsistency of these parents, he is the fruit of the environment in which he lived, a reflection of the education or treatment he was inflicted on. I am surely an optimist but I would like that we show him that the world is not necessarily that horror, that he himself is not obliged to follow the same see as these torturers.
His story made me sad, and I know that his past does not excuse his current behavior but ... For him more than for anyone I will love a redemption and a forgiveness on both sides.
Devil's advocate

A very relevant question, but still one that's got a clear answer. However this ends, it's not going to be a regular thing. Tempest doesn't really like being around most ponies anyway, and there's few who are seeking her out to fight her in front of Lulu.

I can't believe I am saying this, but I want to thank Rust Wing for his complete callousness and all, because something about this story affected Tempest and stopped her from turning you and perhaps in the blood-soaked rush the others into red stains on the ground. I hate to think that, but just seeing how she was almost enjoying hurting him, how she seemed all but deaf (not for the first time) to the entreaties of Lullaby and Thistle, makes me worry that when she sees red the line between friend and foe, target and bystanders, becomes a lot less defined. She was in the right at first for stopping Rust Wing, but a mother bear (to the best of my knowledge, feel free to correct me if I am wrong) only attacks if her cubs are in immediate peril and the threat doesn't respond to scare tactics. Even if she does end up attacking, it is usually enough to injure the threat or a clean kill. Tempest was going to tear Rusty limb from limb and even after he was dead, I didn't see her in her berserker like madness stopping until not even a single hair of his was left.

It's almost as if things have come full circle when it comes to Tempest and Rust Wing. Not gonna start saying that Tempest caused Rust Wing to be the way he is, cause based on how dysfunctional his family was, the seeds were planted long before she came to Equestria. However, killing Thistle's father - the main stable figure in Rust Wing's life - left Rust without someone to keep him in check and prevent him from becoming the worst he could be. Now Tempest is seeing a byproduct of her past actions under the Storm King and very nearly repeated the cycle before allowing for his words to affect her and bring her back from a dark place. Curious to see how things unfold from here.

It's pretty crucial to understand that the only right thing to do is to stop this cycle and find another way.

There's nothing wrong in becoming stronger and learning that you cant rely on others all the time. That sometimes you DO need to stand up for yourself. Its this abuse of power rather then teaching with an even and just hand that is the source of all this.

its more how its done
its like how war can cause more problems if done wrong.
but there are times where words do not work
and you need to be on the offensive
it was still rust's choice to abuse others.
