Usually the numbers are painted on one of three places.
1.The sides of the tender.
2.The sides of the cab (usually under the windows)
3.On the front of the train.

Interesting use of IR. Only thing that bothers me is the angle of the train in the frame. Otherwise, it's an excellent shot.
