It's near the Rummu quarry / prison.
Look here:
[link]
See the small hill to the left of the lake (former quarry) ? This photo was taken right from the top of it
You're welcome.

Ahhaaa! I think I know what you mean. Thanks!! I've driven past there a couple of times when going to Haapsalu, but never thought that just behind the prison there is such an interesting place.

Around what time did you take the shot? March? Is the greenish water common there?

Have you been there around winter too, I mean would it be interesting to shoot right now too with the snow and ice or is it probably pretty dull?

By the way, do you have an idea for what this building was used before?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DSent In reply to joonatannoor [2010-02-10 17:07:32 +0000 UTC]

Behind the prison there's a really nice lake-quarry. And yes, the water there is very clean and greenish...like on some tropical island
In summer, you can even swim there...and if you're lucky enough to bring a boat, you could swim right through this building on it. And there's also some underwater trees, fences and underwater structures that you can see from the boat.
Picture was taken in mid-March, I think. Never been there in winter, the lake should be frozen at that time. Still could be an interesting view, though...

I've no idea what's up with this building (there's 2 of them, actually). I'd like to know that myself. But from what I understand, first they had dug up the huge quarry (limestone?), then built a bunch of stuff there, and after that the whole thing got flooded by water. Weird, I know

I dug a bit in the Internet and found out that in the water there should still be at least one backhoe. Here are some photos: [link] & [link] & [link]

And 2 backhoes were pulled out of the water some years ago.

The colors of the water are quite pretty, and it looks deep in some areas (is it?) The way there is just this buliding out of nowhere is really different, and for it to be in the middle of the water, it just, it's interesting to look at and think about. Is the building abandoned?

It's good on summer though...when it's all hot and dry, you've always got a swimming pool near. Just imagine how cool is that, you open the window and jump right in!

DSent In reply to Hiddenplanet [2007-03-27 16:05:00 +0000 UTC]

If you insist...although I'm afraid it's going to ruin the overall impression / mystery of the subject .
Here's a quick 2 images pano:
[link]

The hill where I took the photo from is an old dump from the nearby quarry (which has been flooded and became a lake, as you can see)
The fence in the top-left corner belongs to the prison (still in function).
The house in the middle of the lake...well, even I don't know what's it's doing there
Oh, and the whole thing is located in northern Estonia.

Thank you for your kind comments!
