Description What an incredible light show I got one evening. Good way to end a day of driving from Alabama to Oklahoma. This was taken at Lake Eufaula State Park just east of Oklahoma City. Still had a few hours of driving to do but what a great place for a little rest to enjoy the show. The real story was the behind the scenes to this. I had to literally scare off wild hogs....big ones...while standing there. I was over my ankles in mud and running just wasn't an option. They had snuck out from the wood line behind me and I didn't know they were even there until they were feet away. Luckily they were just curious and ran off when I grabbed a big stick laying next to me. Haha! I was prepared to fight for that shot.

Thank you! That tree caught my eye and then I sunk up in mud so I was "stuck" on this composition in a few ways. LOL!

alol, they're really bad in some areas.

lol, I grew up on that lake. dad was the head dude for the corps of engineers there. what a huge lake... and the wild locals can be scarier and more dangerous than the hogs if startled.

Hahaha!!! I got LUCKY this day. Just passing through and they had every gate locked to get down to the water. So I saw a ranger leaving the visiting station and asked him real quick the best place to go that was open for a sunset. He said...follow me! And then took me to this spot and opened the gate for me. Just told me to lock up when I was done. So didn't have to worry about the locals much. Had it all to myself. Kinda glad now after reading this. You're dad had a VERY important job is all I can say. And TRULY hoping some significant rain finds it's way to the area SOON.

they tend to be really good guys and also quite professional. glad they took care of you.

it's gone lower this past decade than it ever did when I was growing up. it takes an insane amount of rain to fill it.

some killer mud flats to shoot until it does though!

I have to admit I LOVED the mud flats....but would rather not see all the water levels SO low like I did there and practically everywhere else west of there. Folks over here truly don't understand the severity of the drought out that way.

it's a bit scary when you look at the data and projections.
