Description Nate's art. A picture I sorta made on a whim that depicts werewolf character, Rafael Waithe, from "Legacies" (A spin-off tv series to "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals" depicted as an agent of the BPRD from the Hellboy universe. If you don't know the connection, both Rafael and Hellboy are depicted as the descendants of King Arthur in their respective series and thus the rightful heirs of Excalibur. Don't know how the two series could ever actually conceivably happen due to most supernatural species in the TVD universe being practically extinct due to being consumed by the mud golem Malivore (long story), but it would be super fun for Hellboy to be a mentor to his younger cousin. Also, having recently gotten Resident Evil 4 for christmas and playing through the Mercenaries mode, I thought of Rafael as an unlockable mercenary in a proposed Resident Evil sequel (one where HUNK would be the protagonist), using his wolf form in a similar manner to Krauser's blade arm to destroy multiple enemies in a single blow. Again, Resident Evil works even less in the TVD universe due it being more about bioterrorism than the supernatural (Even if, admittedly, all the series in the TVD universe have partially dabbled with the idea of engineering vampirism and lycanthropy into bioweapons), but its still a rather fun idea imagining a werewolf decimating a horde of zombies with his trusty, magic sword, a TMP and a bad attitude. XD

However, my primary reason for drawing this pic was to honor the character of Rafael Waithe and, by extension, all werewolves in the TVD, because I felt they really got the short end of the stick in all three series; having a really cool, original mythology that truly felt unique among werewolf media, but unfortunately playing second fiddle to both vampires and witches. They're physically inferior to vampires and lack any of their useful secondary abilities (healing blood, mind compulsion, dream weaving, etc.), have no real way of effectively battling witches due to the fact that werewolves are only limited to brute strength against a foe that can just yeet them with their minds, and their only real useful ability, that being a venomous bite that kills vampires, is only limited to their wolf forms on a full moon and, even then, is too slow acting to ever actually give them an effective edge over their vampiric enemies (not to mention that, despite being older than vampires, werewolves somehow evolving a vampire-killing venom is just dumb and is obviously just their as an easy plot device). Even Raf, one of the most interesting characters in the show with a legitimately sweet relationship with his foster brother, Landon Kirby, and a decent arc where he makes peace with his biological parents, still has to play second fiddle to all the vampire and witch characters (not to mention the Mary Sue that is Hope Mikaelson, but I won't go further with that) and he along with the other werewolf characters are largely relegated to the background or are otherwise depicted as incompetent buffoons compared to their vampiric or witchy classmates. It hurts even more when they reveal Raf as the true heir of Excalibur, only to kick him out of the show by the beginning of season three, never to do anything more with that subplot. In my honest opinion, I only think werewolves exist in this show so the show can make an excuse to add the hybrids and nothing more. Anyways, enough of my angry werewolf fan boy ramblings and just enjoy my pic. ;D
