Over the last few days I've been looking up some dropped cartoon pilots that I honestly think would have made some cool series if they did get picked, and one of my favourite ones was the one 3 Dog Band. youtu.be/SNx8WwiOwzM

The short, who had Craig McCracken as the director and Paul Rudish as the writer , is about three dog members of a band - Stavros, Loubie and Sly, with varying tastes in music, try to set up a performance at a club (I heard Paul Rudish based it off of his love of rave culture ). This pilot episode/short is one of the only 14 out of 39 completed pilot episodes that was supposed to air in the animated anthology series 'The Cartoonstitute' on Cartoon Network, Unfortunately the show got scrapped due to Cartoon Network not being able to balance 5 upcoming shows and just adding another one would be too difficult for them so the project was scrapped.

The characters all have fun personalities shown in the 7 minutes (not the most fleshed out but for the pilot is establishes them well ), I thought the animation was a lot of fun to watch, and the music is of course fantastic. I tried looking up the voice actors who provided the voices for the characters, but I sadly couldn't find any information about this. I will admit that the lack of sound effects in some scenes or odd sound effects sound a bit strangely placed, and I can see a little bit of why it wasn't picked up for a series at the time, but a lot of series I've seen since then have had whole episodes be based around musical plots or have had episodes that are musicals in themselves (Friendship is Magic, Steven Universe and Centaurworld being examples), so perhaps it was a case that it came out at the wrong time. Or at the very least I can see this being the basis for an animated band like Gorillaz.

I've seen this short has a fair bit of a cult following, which I think it does deserve , and I decided to draw a piece of fanart for it myself. I based the backgrounds for each of the three dogs in the style of the music they seem to be inspired by - Stavros is based off 80's synth, Loubie is based off 90s hip hop/rap music, and Sly is based off of 70s funk/disco.

I watched some other dropped pilots recently that may be getting more fanart soon too. And since I did have fun drawing this, 3 Dog Band is one I may be doing more fanart for.
