Description Another monster drawing here. Way back when I made a list of monsters and creatures I've been trying to draw, recommended a Wendigo, so here's my take on a Wendigo.

I seem to have thing for deer based monsters (like my take on Krampus - my version looks a bit more like a Baphomet ), so drawing the grown up version of the Wendigo from this picture here - www.deviantart.com/duckyworth/… - felt like something worth doing, especially seen as that was the first time I've drawn a wendigo.

A mythological man eating creature in Native American Algonquian tribal folklore based in the northern forests of Nova Scotia, the East Coast of Canada, and Great Lakes Region of Canada, the wendigo (named after a controversial medical term as Wendigo psychosis - where people were apparently reported to resort to cannibalism when possessed by the wendigo spirit - but modern historians say a lot of these reports were said to be fabricated by naïve anthropologists who take such reports at face value) is described as a monster with some characteristics of a human or as a spirit who has possessed a human being and made them become monstrous, sometimes being portrayed with deer like features like horns. Giants that are many times larger than any human and an embodiment of gluttony, a wendigo is never full after eating a human, growing in proportion to its last meal. Their influence is said to invoke acts of murder, insatiable greed, cannibalism and the cultural taboos against such behaviours.

The Wendigo is the reason why the ground is sour and evil in "Pet Sematary"

It's interesting to compare your Wendigo to the ones in 'Until Dawn'. Both are appropriately unnerving.

I haven't played Until Dawn (but I think I should ), but I've heard of it's plot and the implementation of wendigoes into the plot, and they are pretty freaky from what I've seen.

Your wendigo is terrifying yet oddly adorable somehow.  I love how you portrayed its proportions, especially its antlers; they don't look identical, which indicates that there's something twisted about this creature.

On a side note, according to a Youtube video I saw on the wendigo, it tricks and lures children to it by imitating the voices of their loved ones.  There's more, but I barely remember what those facts are.  If you're curious, the link to the video is here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1kbfu…

Just a fair warning, though: it gets scarier as you keep on watching because I experienced that feeling for myself. Good luck if you do decide to check it out!

Aww, thank you for saying so - terrifying yet adorable is something I often try to go for with my monster designs.

I'll have to watch that video - I remember watching gameplay of Until Dawn and I saw the wendigoes there could mimic human speech.

You're very welcome, Duckyworth.  Ah, really? That's pretty interesting to know. I'm assuming it's because people misunderstand some creatures, and you want to show a different side to them through your drawings?

Well, good luck to you again, I suppose.  Never heard of that game, but yikes; there too?

Well, at times I feel my art style is often too cute to be scary , so I decided to compromise.

Yeah, at one point one of the main characters can be distracted by a wendigo pretending to be her friend.

Ah, that makes sense.  You want to experiment with different things while keeping your unique art style, don't you?

Oh, God! What does the wendigo do in there? Wait for the right moment to kill the character or something?!
