Ike leaned down close to his deceased father's face, trying to memorize how his father looked so he would never forget.
He couldn't cry, not at all. If he cried, he wouldn't be able to stop. He couldn't do that in front of Mist. He had to be strong for her. But he had to at least say good-bye.
"Dad," Ike said quietly, as if his father was listening. It was the first time he ever uttered the term. "I'm sorry I didn't get you back to the castle quickly enough..."
Silence fell over the room. The candlelight flickered across Greil's skin, giving the false impression that there was still color in his face. There were a couple drops of rain still resting on his skin. Ike reached for them and wiped them away with his thumb. He noticed how his father's skin was still a little bit warm, but cooling rapidly.
Ike let out a breath he didn't realize he had been holding, "At least you're out of the rain now."
More silence. It was the loudest thing the young man had ever heard. Only one heart was beating in that room and only one person breathing in the room that had two people in it.
If he didn't walk away now, Ike wouldn't be able to do it at all. "I'm going to leave now," Ike said, nodding to himself.
Oh how he wished his father would stir and open his eyes.
Ike moved his hand beneath his father's head, feeling the damp brown hair with his fingers. He leaned down and kissed Greil's cheek.
"Good-bye, Father," Ike murmured. "I love you. I'll see you again someday. Say hello to Mom for me, okay?"

I cried so many times because of this picture. I know it looks kind of weird, but I always wondered what happened between Greil dying and Ike and Mist standing at his grave.
Another reason this picture makes me sad is because my dad's father died when he was in high school. It was really tragic. I always wish I could have met my grandpa. =[
