Description WIP4 of the District 9 Prawn(alien) assault rifle.

This is the weapon that Christopher Johnson(alien protagonist) uses in the attack on the MNU headquarters with Wikus, who uses the more commonly modeled Arc Gun.

Nearly finished the modelling, just the handle/grip to finish then I'm going to start with the texturing.
To keep the scene file organised I've al converted everything to xrefs, so I can model and texture each component separately. Gives me a nice simple object hierarchy:[link]

Something like 100,000 polygons worth of detail. I like to model as much as I can to make my texturing job easier.

are you using Instance and/or Symmetry objects for all of the duplications ?

Symmetry for the barrel and the grip. The little greebled boxes are mograph clones with instance on, which is a good thing since every edge is beveled.
The cylindrical tanks and the scope are single objects.

"The cylindrical tanks and the scope are single objects."
did you use multiple objects to make them then Connect them into one object , or is it easier for you to model from one base object ?

Both methods, the cylindrical bits are from one cylinder, the scope is from multiple cubes that have been extruded, etc, which are then welded together to form a more complex object which I then detail further with more extrusions and stuff.
