Great work and for once it's not a later P-51

Only Allison engined Mustangs had the top mounted air intake. They also had four 50 caliber machine guns. The first British Mustangs had four 20mm. cannons.

Yeah, it's a P-51B.Β  It only has 4 50 calibers & the nose radiator.

Looks like a P-51A to me. Β The cowling is different between the two models, with the scoop thing on the top being on the P-51A and the A-36 Apache (and it's not an Apache because no slat dive brakes or chin-mounted guns; the Apache was kind of a weird step in the Mustang's evolution)

This is the P-51B, actually.

the "A" has an allison engine in it and the "B" had a Packard-Merlij in it. On the B's the egie scoop was on the bottom. here's a comaprison

the "A" www.bing.com/images/results.as…

So survey says... this is a P-51A then? Β At least we all can agree it't not an A-36 Apache. Β No visible dive brakes or chin-mounted 20mm cannons.

It is an A, trust me. Demon Dog doesn't know what the hell he's talking about.

But yes you are correct, it's not an A-36.

It is without a doubt a P-51A, even though this was fact was already stated over two years ago. I just can't help myself.

well now, greeting from two ago! XD

How some people can't tell the difference is puzzling to me quite frankly. Of course one of the people involved in this discussion once claimed that he owns and flies a MiG 3 so that oughta tell the caliber of people we're dealing with.

If you really want a headache, try the comment sections of youtube...never a lack of stupid comments from people who think they know everything.
I agree, the differences between an A and B model Mustang isn't that subtle.

Oh God yes.Β  I still can't believe the number of Americans who think the eighth air force was involved in the battle of Britain!

DouglasCastleman In reply to MiG-OKb [2016-09-11 14:23:16 +0000 UTC]

That's a new one for me! Well, a former vice-presidential candidate or ours had to be told who fought who in that war, among other crazy things. So, I shouldn't be surprised.

MiG-OKb In reply to DouglasCastleman [2016-09-12 15:12:00 +0000 UTC]

Former vice presidential candidate? Sound like something Double barrel Joe would say!

Yeah someone said something along the lines of 'the mighty 8th air force cleaned the Luftwaffe's clock during the battle of britain!' then claimed, I kid you not, all British pilots were trained by Orville Wright, the first fighter pilot. To which someone replied 'without a doubt you will go down in history as the dumbest youtube commentator ever.

Yeah, just one example of Sarah Palin's amazing lack of general knowledge ....mades me so proud to be an American when she speaks in public, LOL.
That person really might be the dumbest commentator ever! I think Orville shot down the Red Baron with Snoopy's doghouse, before he started the popcorn company. Also, (and I've read this a few times!) that Louis Armstrong or Lance Armstrong was the first man on the moon, but that isn't quite as bad as what you quoted. ( I think he played his trumpet while riding a bike on the moon.)

Jeez, and I voted for McCain too!

Usually what I see alot of is 'well what about all the Americans who fought with the Eagle Squadron during the battle of Britain?" not knowing that the group really didn't get a lot of yanks until 1941 I believe. The I had someone try to tell me that the battle of San Juan Hill was during the Civil War. Oh and did you know that Hitler had no idea that the Holocaust was going on too? Himmler did it all with out the Fuhrer's knowledge.Β

I simply couldn't vote for him just based on his decision to have Palin. I do wish he was here now instead of Trump. He would be my choice this time for sure, as I am positive he regrets choosing Palin as a running mate.
The internet is full of people who think they have all the knowledge, and yet probably have never read a book.

I tend to lean Republican although there are some democrats that I like. I don't like either candidate right now.

Yeah they tend to get all their info from games and make assumptions or believe every photograph they see but don't investigate the context of the picture.
