This is an amazing shot, and brings back memories for me.
I was driving home rather anxiously after work, and saw very dark clouds traveling north -- while I headed south. We seemed to converge, which scared me plenty, but the storm suddenly sprouted dozens of insect legs drawn with lightning, much like your photo -- but no long exposures here! It was registering dozens of strikes every second, and aiming right for my neighborhood.
When I reached my exit and sprinted for the local roads, I began to hear rain tapping my roof. The thunder rumbled and I saw flashes two blocks away as I parked in front of my house and rushed inside. Just as I did, lightning crashed very near by and every car and house alarm went off for about five blocks in every direction!
And then, five minutes later, when everyone had shut off their alarms, it did it again. And again.
You created a great picture, and set off a strong memory in my noggin. Well done!

Wow! That must have been something. I came to Big Bend to see stars but it turns out the clouds were much more interesting that night!

Terrifying! Arguably the scariest thunderstorm I ever witnessed. Ironically, not the deadliest; that one came within feet of killing me and I didn't even know!
Yes, I knew something was up when the rusted old Anderson windows all slammed shut at once, but I figured maybe a funnel cloud had drawn near. I didn't learn until a few years later, from a tree surgeon, that the scar on a tree right outside had been from a lightning strike. He even pinpointed the date. which turned out to be the one I remembered. Yeesh!
