Mixing a modernism almost crude in its lack of decorum with the timeless romanticism of death, OPHELIAC decontextualizes themes of beauty and of death, likening one to the other, both belonging to the intemporal. This is represented in the piece by the encroaching foliage, referring the original work on which it is based— John Everett Millais’s Ophelia— thus representing the bridge death draws across time and context, mirrored by the old process of hand colouring and the modern one of Photoshop.
