Description Oil on Canvas, 12 x 12 inches. I hadn't done a pointillist painting in ages. I really really wanted to so I did. I plan to do a few more as well and integrate all the things I've learned from past paintings now. I added the sunlight swirl that I used to add, I think it's a nice touch. Overall, I don't think it turned out too bad. I tried a different method of "dotting" this time and I tried to place the dots in an interesting way.

Oh my goodness, what a lovely piece! The use of color and technique is absolutely marvelous, the scene is breathtaking. All I can say is that you are a true artist with a God given talent. The use of red, orange and yellow; truly a masterpiece, I mean the shading is also very delightful. Very! I also love how the colors are mixed, how all the colors are in just the right place due to the time it took place, and the angle is awesome as well. I can't believe the work that went into this. I'll bet it took a while to complete.

Well, with some practice and work into the technique, you could learn to do it

I really like this style, a technique must be easy since you need to find complementary colors to create a uniform appearance from a distance!
I really like the sky and if you approach, it seems to be a mosaic, I give this effect.
Congratulations!

That's really nice work! I did a big painting in this style when I was back in high school. It was an autumn scene, so there was a lot of reds, yellows and oranges in there. Your colors mix up really well

I love how it reminds me of van gogh, who is my favorite artist

Thanks I look to van Gogh for inspiration, and even when I don't it seeps through anyway. I also admire him and his work very much.

It feels like you were influenced both by Seurat and Van Gogh on this piece. Have you ever read "Lust For Life", Irving's novel about Van Gogh? Van Gogh spent some time with Seurat during his time in Paris, and you should put a trip to Amsterdam on your Bucket List so you can go to the Van Gogh museum. In one room you could see he was trying out various Impressionist techniques (many of his self portraits in my opinion were done to try a technique and not have to pay for a model).

Indeed, your painting reminds me of one of these experiments of his.

Yeah, I think so too. I was trying to give the "dots" a sense of motion with this one and the one I'm currently working on. And no, I haven't, I should probably look into that, could learn a few things. I have a book with a lot of van Gogh's are in it and explaining what he was doing at the time, and, I have noticed some of that pointillist influence in quite a few of his works. I've also looked at works by Andre Derain for some inspiration about different color placement with the dots.

Yay! sunswirl! oooh very pretty. I like the cloud and the way you shaded/highlighted it with the sunlight. Then there's the ocean, words fail me. Maybe it's the new technique, but I can see the little waves, and then their gone and it looks all calm, then the wind picks up and their back. A very nice effect. Great job on the boat, but I have to say, it looks like the ropes are on fire. Or the mast, whatever it's technically called? I think the only thing I'm not real fond of is the dock. To me the dock looks like water, but then the boats behind it with the ocean and I can tell its not... I think if you had made the dots a bit more uniform along the dock it would of helped (I say this with absolutely no idea of how difficult that might be). The posts too look like their sitting in water, but aside from that they're one of my favorite things (along with practically everything else...). I never cease to be amazed by how you never overlook details such as the shading on the posts or the way the light reflects off the top of the boat, or the cloud reflecting in the water (even if it does look like the boats on fire...) And then there's the sunswirl. The little girl part of me REALLY likes the sunswirl .

Yes! I've been wanting to do the sunswirls again for awhile now, they were something unique to me I felt, not sure if someone else has done it for sure, but yeah. I like them. And yeah? That water was actually the most difficult part and I was worried it turned out poorly. I have trouble creating light reflection with the characteristics of the ocean water with pointillism. It took a lot to get it right, or at least close. And yeah, some things turned out odd, I was re-adjusting back into the style in a different way. And ha, thanks. I loved the shading the most. Placing just the right dots with the right colors is quite fun and a good feeling if done right. And yeah...that cloud reflection/fire result was partially due to my struggles getting the water right. I just need to keep practicing with it and eventually I'll get it right, ha. And ha, I do to
