Description

Alright, so this will be the first time I've ever tried to do anything like this, so I hope it works out alright. For context, before I get into the actual story, I wanted to make comics where my main characters all met the characters that inspired them. So this is the first part of a multi-part art project I'll be working on over the coming month(s) where I'll be drawing my characters interacting with characters from other fictional universes.

I've said in the past that Latte is pretty much a 1:1 reflection of my real self, but that doesn't mean he wasn't influenced by another character. So without further ado, lets get into it.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

It was another normal day in the city of Avalon. Latte had just finished up his morning shift at Raccoon Cafe, and was ready to head back to the apartment he shared with his good friend Mocha. However, among the many other animals he passed while on his way, he saw one that stuck out to him as particularly unique, waiting at the intersection of a road. Sporting blue hair and a blue tail with one stripe at the end, she hummed happily to herself as she waited. It was pretty cool outside, but she was only wearing a white tank top over her sports bra and blue shorts.

Wait, I think I know this girl... Latte thought. Uh-oh, I hope she doesn't recognize me... As Latte passed, the tanuki girl turned around. "Wait, that's my sweater you're wearing!" (Author's note: Latte used to wear Michiru's sweater, as can be seen here: www.deviantart.com/duplifox/ar… )

"I have no clue what on Gaea you're talking about," Latte lied, avoiding eye contact with the girl. In truth, he had found the sweater lying on a bench, and thought someone had discarded it, and only found out later that it had belonged to the tanuki girl.

"That's obviously my sweater! Give it back!" the tanuki girl demanded.

Latte sighed, and took off the sweater, giving it back to her. It was strange, because it seemed a size too small for the tanuki, but she still seemed appreciative of it. Guess I'll have to get a new sweater sometime down the line, huh? "Sorry, I didn't even realize it was yours at first. I thought someone just discarded it."

The tanuki girl shrugged. "It's alright, I'm not too mad about it. I'm just glad I got it back. So what's your name, anyways?"

"Latte," the raccoon shuddered in the cool Spring air. "You're a tanuki, right? That's a rare sight around Avalon."

"No, I'm a raccoon! Honestly, you'd think a raccoon would be able to recognize their own species," the tanuki replied. "I'm Michiru Kagemori, I'm actually not from around here, just visiting."

Latte chuckled at her comment. "Raccoons have multiple stripes on their tail," he said, flicking his own for emphasis. "You only have one stripe at the end of yours. But speaking of which, you're definitely really unique, even for the tanuki that I do know of. You're not from around here, you said?"

The light at the intersection changed, and Michiru began walking across the street. Latte decided to follow her, because she seemed pretty interesting. "Yeah, I actually live in a place called Anima City," Michiru answered, "It's this really cool place full of beastmen, just like this one. Although, it's got some issues."

"Everywhere on Gaea's got problems," Latte mentioned, "But back up for a second... 'Anima City?' 'Beastmen? I've never heard of that city, or that term before.:

Michiru shrugged. "I think I'm just from a different universe altogether, but I don't know. Because from what it seems like, none of you can transform into humans in any capacity."

Latte stopped as soon as they had finished crossing the road. "Wait, you can transform into a human? That shouldn't be possible!"

Michiru nodded. "Yeah, and that's why I think I may not be from here at all. Because everyone in Anima City can do that for some reason." She walked down an alleyway, and Latte began following her again. They passed a shop that sold 'magical items' and a gardening center that Latte was pretty familiar with

"I've only been in Avalon for a few hours now, but I get the same feeling from this city that I got from Anima City," Michiru continued, looking around at the shops, "It's really beautiful and seems wonderful to live in, but there's actually a lot of suffering here that's thinly veiled beneath the surface of all that."

Latte looked at Michiru in surprise. "Yeah, that's pretty much exactly right..."

  "I want to fix it."

  "Huh?"

Michiru turned around to face Latte, a fierce determination showing in her eyes. "I want to get rid of all the suffering of the beastmen in Anima City! They didn't choose to live that way, it was forced on them because of a shitty system! I want to fix it!" She relaxed a bit, staring at the ground. "I didn't ask to live there, but I do. So I might as well try to make things better."

Latte was sure his jaw was hanging open, but he started laughing at that statement.

  "Hey, don't laugh at me!"

"No, it's not that! It's just that..." Latte grinned. "I want the same thing for Avalon! So it seems like we're on the same path, then."

Michiru smiled. "Yeah, I guess we are!"

So I wanted to originally make this a comic, but I got too frustrated with the process, and just opted to write the story while only having one picture to capture the scene. And yes, I am making Michiru taking her sweater back the canon reason Latte changes sweaters. She and the sweater won't actually be brought up in the official story, but that will affect the way I draw Latte from here on out. This isn't my best writing, just something quickly off the cuff while I'm taking a small break from the full story, so sorry if it seems a little lackluster.

Latte here is the main character from the story I'm writing, called Rise of the Phoenix! You can find more art of him and all the other characters here: www.deviantart.com/duplifox/ga…
