Description
Connections:
Antagonistic characters from metafictional series (MS Paint Adventures and When They Cry) who function as the overarching main villain of their stories (Lord English/Caliborn is arguably the central antagonist for all of Hussie's works; Featherine is the main orchestrater behind the events of all the 07th Expansion works). Both are incredibly powerful characters, whose threat extends to even the narrative and plot itself (Lord English can threaten the entire of Homestuck just by existing, passively removing countless characters from canonical relevance and even murdering the author himself while rewriting the plot to his benefit; Featherine's whole schtick is that she can manipulate the plot of the story as its author). Both wear extremely fantastical and flashy clothing (Lord English's Cairo Overcoat being over-the-top and literally flashy [seriously, one could argue his main power is causing seizures in the reader smh]; Featherine's attire is made up of contrasting colors, in addition to a scarf which a medallion is hanging over). Both also like and prefer to wield canes/staffs as their main weapons (Lord English wields the Green Sun Cane; Featherine wields her walking stick [or the Khakkara as Eua]). They are both so extraordinary among their races, that they are awarded special titles because of it (Caliborn cleared the Dead Session, something which was deemed absolutely impossible to anyone who attempted it, netting him the title of both God-Tier and the "Lord of Time" for his affinity over the control of time and fate itself; Featherine is said to have mastered numerous games in the past and became so well-renown among all of her peers that she eventually became the strongest Witch of all, netting her the title of the "Witch of Theatergoing, Drama, and Spectating" for her affinity of writing). Both have a distinct theme of finding out they are a piece in something greater than themselves, in which they rebel in some ways against the ones writing their story (Lord English breaking into Hussie's home and killing him; Featherine mysteriously dying and becoming the author of her own story).
They can manipulate and even completely destroy lower worlds which serve as the conceptual embodiments of universes/timelines within each of their cosmologies (Genesis Frogs are what contain the universe Homestuck takes place in and serve as a conceptual "background" for said universes, of which there are an infinite number of, all of which English can affect with his plot tomfoolery; Fragments/Kakera are the conceptual embodiments of entire universes within 07th Expansion, there are an infinite number of these within the Sea of Fragments and Featherine can manipulate/destroy them similar to other Witches). They are often depicted as cunning, cruel, and manipulative characters, even for their race, who thrive off of the suffering of others (Lord English is a demonic time-traveling god, who uses said powers to fuck with the protagonists across countless realities, he is also cruel and monstrous, sparing no one he comes across [not even his own writer and his wife, gyatt dayum]; Featherine is stated to want to tear out the entrails of stories and completely fragment them down to their last pieces so she can learn the Truth of what hides within, she is also called "a monster" by Lambdadelta, with the irony being that all Witches could be seen as "monsters").
They both operate through lower life forms, which are equally as dramatically dressed as they are (Doc Scratch and Ikuko Hachijo), who seem to be nigh-omniscient and interact directly with the main protagonists throughout most of their stories (Doc Scratch communicates with several of Homestuck's main characters throughout the story before his eventual transformation into Lord English; Ikuko interacts with both Ange in 1998 and Battler, who at that point in the story had become Tohya Hachijo). Both of these lower beings also hold some deeper meaning within their names (Doc Scratch is a play on the pool term "Scratch", which is a play off of how he'll end up being the one to bring Lord English into reality, with "English" also being a pool term for the way a cueball spins [Scratch's name may also be a reference to "Old Scratch", an old nickname for the Devil]; Ikuko, while under the pseudonym of Tohya, can be read as Oyashiro, a reference to Oyashiro-sama in Higurashi. Oyashiro is the title given to both Hanyuu and Eua, who many theorize to be Featherine herself). There is a bonus connection if you believe Featherine to be Hanyuu and/or Eua, in which they're both depicted as another life form before they evolve into their usual "high-god-state" selves, while also having a duality with a 'sibling' or 'counterpart' which shares the existence of said sibling/counterpart (Lord English being Caliborn, who is Calliope's brother and evil counterpart; both Hanyuu and Eua are counterparts on a dichotomy to one another, with Hanyuu being the "good" half and Eua being the "evil" half).
They contrast in the fact that, while both can be counted as cruel and heartless tyrants, Lord English is literally a demon who cares for no one else but his own selfish ego, as Caliborn praising himself as "the one true protagonist of the story"; Featherine on the other hand is actually pretty chill most of the time, and only goes out of her way to truly get in the way of others' peace if her job calls for it (such as when Bernkastel was attacked by Lambdadelta, and Featherine was forced to step in due to her status as Bern's master. Even then, she expresses distaste in having to fight Lambda and even revives her later).
I still think Time Lord Victorious and Mandrakk are their best respectively, but this is a good alt (my favorite, even).
