Description Here's another quicky of one of my favorite Science Fiction films, one of my favorite Robert Wise films and one of my favorite Michael Crichton films all rolled into one. It's a methodical procedural that keeps you hanging on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. The technology on display and the premise itself must have been remarkably original and new to audiences back when the movie debuted in 1971, keep that in mind if you ever sit down to watch it. It also has one of the most frightning sequences I've ever seen in a film, when the two lead scientists are airlifted into a town thats been affected by something that they have to identify before its too late. Don't wanna spoil it for you. I also appreciate the fact that Wise cast really engaging character actors for the 4 lead scientist rolls, even the lead James Olson isn't your typical "leading man" type, he was in a ton of TV, as well as the movies Moon Zero 2, Ragtime, Amityville 2 & Commando. Kate Reid who plays Dr. Ruth Leavitt is one of my favorites in the movie, shes cantankerous as hell . Reid was in a LOT of televison including my favorite part of hers, Aunt Lil Trotter in DALLAS!

Me too, Robert Wise was firing on all cylinders on this adaptation, happy to have upgraded to the Blu-ray last year!

Excellent film, still better then the remake. I would love to see his last book, MICRO, turned into a film. "Honey, I shrunk the Kids" meets "The Naked Prey".

The funny thing is, I can see this basically as is, in a cartoon miniseries. Great story, and yeah, as someone who saw it way back when, this really captures the characters as portrayed. I missed the silent vicious dogs from the book, though.

Did you know that this movie actually got rated G by the Motion Picture Association of America? Even the people making the movie evidently thought the G rating was too lenient, because the trailer has a text message which states "Rated G-but may be too intense for younger children".

I love this...Andromeda Strain is one of my all time faves, I always considered it to be a cult film that most people
brushed off as being too much content and not enough action (just the opposite of most sci-fi movies nowadays)
I am surprised at how many people just here in the forum have even heard of it. I never bothered to watch the
remake they are almost always a disappointment.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time! It's probably too slow-moving for today's audiences but back in the day it scared the living daylights out of me! It's probably the first Michael Crichton book adapted for film.

I don't know if you've ever seen this movie, but it's one of my favorite obscure movies of all time. It was an anthology movie from the eighties that featured three stories from different genres. One was an adaption of the Sherlock Holmes story The Silver Blaze, one was a new version of the story The Rocking Horse Winner, and the third was by Isaac Asimov and i can't remember the title of it. Kate Reid played a nurse who mwas assigned to take care of a cro-magnon
child who had been displaced in time by a government experiment. They grew very bclose and when the time came to send the child back to his own time she protested and said that the child would pine without her and die. So she decides
to make the ultimate sacrifice and go back with the child she has grown to love as her own. Andromeda Strain is one of my favorite movies of all time. The scene where the scientists have to make that mad race to stop the self destruction of the lab, dodging lasers as they go is one of the most suspenseful sequences ever.

Love this movie too! Not a fast movie so I don't know if it will appeal to everyone. Tense, deliberate pace. And a great finish as well. Great piece. And, in a huge coincidence, I found a cool Japanese movie poster for this very movie about 20 minutes ago.

Wow... Thanks for giving props to this film! It's been kinda lost in the Modern SciFi age of special effects and big bombastic story telling. Love the unconventional casting; no one is young or beautiful which clearly went against the grain then...and now.

Oh Man! an all time favorite of mine as well. Probably Critchton's first best book, as well as his first. So nice to see fan art from it. I was nearly roused to anger when I saw the recently made for TV version. What a POS! The very scene that you site is also probably my favorite as well, but in the remake they managed to remove nearly all sense of mystery and anxiety from that scene. People just can't make movies any more.

I like your drawing a lot! very nice.
I would not waste my(or your)time on the remake. In my opinion, it stank of the current generation that simply cannot read between the lines, or understand inference. They must have everything spelled out in simple specific terms or they cannot understand what is going on in a film, TV show, or even a book(like they actually read!).
I tried to show a couple of teenage nephews of a friend, "The Legend of Hell House". I was trying to keep the two entertained until their uncle came home. So I figured I'd show them a cool horror movie that i was sure they had never seen before. What a mistake! They were completely confused from the moment the film started. All they did was ask questions instead of shutting up and watching the movie to see what it all meant. A very sad state of affairs. Ever see the movie "Idiocracy"? A comedy but all too true!
