Description Commission by [Kittystavern]

To celebrate the opening of the new Batman sequel, The Dark Knight, I commissioned a piece involving a part of Batman lore, Smilex. Many months ago, Kittystavern completed a Smilex-related commission [link] for me and I tapped her again for this commission. She was pleasant to work with and kept me regularly updated on the progress of the picture. The communication was excellent and we shared feedback and ideas on how to improve the picture. She is an excellent artist to commission from and I definitely recommend her.

Title: Why So Serious?

Background:
Smilex (also called Smylex or Joker venom) is a toxic concoction created by the Joker to poison his victims and give them a contorted smile upon death.

Story:
The Joker received scathing commentary from prominent newswoman, Sara Stevens, at the Gotham Cable News (GCN) and felt insulted by her words. He decided she needed to “lighten up” and the Joker concocted a twisted plan to accomplish that goal. Later that week, the makeup artist for the studio called in sick and a blonde haired replacement came in to substitute. The substitute’s credentials looked valid and she got along well with the other crew members. In fact, they even overheard her and Sara laughing in the dressing room during Sara’s makeup session. That was the last time anyone could recall where the substitute was because she slipped out of the studio unnoticed.

When Sara Stevens didn’t show up for the three o’clock news rehearsal, the station manager sent an intern to check on her. When the intern knocked on the dressing room door, there was no response, so she waited and knocked a few more times. After more silence, the intern opened the door and walked in to check on Sara. She discovered the dressing room’s mirror covered over with purple cloth and that Sara was sitting still in her makeup chair. When the intern swiveled the chair to look at Sara, she discovered the fate of the Joker’s latest victim.
