I've posted the first chapter of my A Bug's Life fanfic www.fanfiction.net/s/10063109/… This is another character I decided to make. She won't be in the story until much later, but I decided to draw and post her anyway.

This is Chanda, a fire ant. She's the rare fire ant who doesn't have a venomous bite. Plus, she's a pyromaniac, having a fascination with fire for as long as she could remember. The council of her anthill believe that her pyromania is a substitute for her venom-less bite.

When she was a teenager, Chanda decided she wanted to try a trick she saw a traveling fire ant once do: eat fire. She burned her tongue and mouth several times before being able to "eat" a small flame, but it was worth it. Chanda met up with the traveling fire ant again, and became his apprentice. As she learned the fine art of eating fire, she had a few "boo-boos," as she called them. She tried to do a trick of tossing the flaming stick up and catching it, and it fell on one of her antennae, and she burned her hand badly. One of her fingers was amputated (I actually screwed up and drew her with three fingers Since I didn't feel like correcting my mistake, I drew her with three fingers, including her thumb) and her burnt antenna is unable to function properly, aside from moving. But despite her injuries, Chanda achieved her goal of becoming a professional fire eater.

Now, Chanda is part of the circus (the same circus in the ABL film; she joins after the film) entertaining flies with her fire-eating skills, as well as her "fire-tossing" trick that cost her a finger and antenna. When offstage, Chanda will often be found at the Bug Bar and Grill. Despite her burn scars, she isn't self-conscious at all. She is one of those girls who enjoys flirting with men, but isn't a stereotypical snobby girl. Though she won't say no to a drink or small date, she doesn't plan to have a serious relationship. She also doesn't expect one, as her burns tend to turn off males. But when she puts on her charm, their wariness will sometimes melt away.

Chanda eventually meets and becomes best friends with Kimberly, a wingless grasshopper who is friendly with ants. Though she was surprised by the fire ant's burns, she learned to see beyond them, and eventually forgot they were there. Chanda dislikes Hopper, having heard of how he treated ants. Despite her antennae barely reaching the top of his legs, Chanda doesn't let his size intimidate her; it's not rare to see the two insects in a heated argument, with Chanda throwing in a French word or two (she has a slight French accent) Despite disliking Hopper, she doesn't mind his brother, Molt, who she thinks is funny and fun to be around.

I'm still kinda working on her, and she may change between now and when she comes into my fanfic. I'm not the best at drawing burns, so it may not look like much.

I thought it'd be fun to make a fire ant that can eat fire. In my mind, when she eats a stick of fire (she only eats the flame, not the stick) smoke comes out of her mouth. Her throwing fiery-sticks trick was inspired by David's in Lilo and Stitch.
