This is so great! How did you do the rain? It looks awesome! The scales are incredible! I can't believe you went through all the effort of adding individual shines to every scale O_O (and multiple layers of highlights too!!! O_O
Did you draw this straight on the computer? Or start with a scan?
Also, I just have to say that I really like Draighrr's costume design! It is awesome!
P.S. I love the dragon's eye!!!
P.P.S. Great job with the detail on the rocky ground that they're standing on!

Theeeheeeeeeee, your comment makes me so happy!!
For the rain I used this awesome tutorial, which makes it a whole lot easier www.deviantart.com/art/Mini-Tu…
And gosh, those scales... It was killing me xD A layer with the outlines, a layer with the normal highlights, a layer with extra colour, a layer with shading, a layer with a second highlight and a layer with a second shade. And then of course the layers with the general highlights and the general shading. No shit it took me so long But I'm happy I've done it, I think I've practiced my patience
I usually start out with a sketch and then continue on computer, but for this one I only had a very rough sketch which I altered on the computer.
Thank you so much for all your compliments, that's really sweet and I appreciate it a lot!!!

O wow it's awesome! I really like the rain and all, and the expressions on their faces, they're great!
Wow and all those scales, that must have taken you ages! I admire your patience.
By the way, I'd love to see a reference if you've got the time

That's a really well done piece!
I can imagine how long it took to draw all those scales on the dragon! It came out very good!
I like especially the light effects on his wings.
The rain looks very authentic!
I wish you a lot of luck for the contest, and...
Keep it up!^^

Really? Aww... You don't know how much happy I am to hear that!!! x)))
Oh, and sure, thanks for pointing out, I think it's important, it's not like Alvrericjas where it doesn't matter what you say xD
And she looks very fine!
Dragons needn't to look female, I don't really like those drawings were the female dragons have eyelash... it looks to me just displaced.
But it's interesting, Now I know that's a female dragon, and I can't see the male dragon anymore xD

Amazingly beautiful work, dear. I can see how hard you've worked to make this a line-less piece- and it REALLY pops the realism out! Your scales all shine, in both the shadow and light, and look like gems, each perfectly socketed into place. Because of your individual scale shading, you add the depth of realism in the shadows of her curved body. Her chest looks so sleek and beautiful, again without the use of lines, but also giving that "wet" look due to all the rain. He looks amazing, too- the stern look on his face, the determination, his cloak flying in the wind and rain, with all the details to his clothing (I particularly enjoy his boots). Also, her spikes along her spine look very realistic, you did an amazing job with the perspective and shading. I love his axe, that is one mean weapon and I love the touches you add to it, with the red highlights alongside the black.
I also absolutely love the little story you wrote with them, as well as the explanation to what this means to you, as well. It's very powerful, and I know exactly what you mean. You took the contest theme and you owned it. I'm still getting the chills, everytime I read the last two sentences- "born in blood. Blood and ink". It just, WOW. Shivers of awesome!
It's truly amazing, and I'm so glad you enjoy how it turned out, because it's incredible work. I can only imagine how long this took you! I'm so glad you were able to finish before the contest ended, even though that's not why I love it- but now it gives you a chance to earn things you deserve, as well as the feature with all the other entries! I hope that you're able to print this out and frame it one day.

Awww, thank you so much ReiRei
Thank you for your detailed comment!! ^^ The scales were what took me so long But I really wanted to try to make it realistic, and I'm glad it worked out!! And oh my, I'm really happy now, Draighrr's expression is exactly the way I wanted it to be This is actually the first time I've drawn him full-body and feel happy with it
The spikes is thanks to you, and even then, they could be better. But I went lazy towards the end The "axe", actually called a halberd , is the most EPIC WEAPON IN ZA UNIVERSE. It's so strong and since Dragonsouls have 1000s years of training with them, they are almost invincible. The edges are red because he is a Captain. For normal soldiers, the halbers & uniforms are just black and grey ^^
Thank you dear, I'm really happy, you're the best - this is all thanks to you. You challenged me to try my hardest, to make something more than usual, to be patient and devoted. Thank you so much Me wuvs you

You are always worthy of a detailed comment, no need to thank me for them! The scales really worked, they really really did, so it was time well spent! And I'm glad Draighrr's expression and body is exactly how you wanted him to be- I know that first time you get that one pose Juuuuust right makes all the difference for you in the end and it is wonderful.
And you know, I pulled down one of my books the other day, "Brisingr", and I was staring at the golden dragon on the front (god don't hate me because I forgot the name, I only read it once D: ) BUT he's got spikes EXACTLY like Dumai! I was really excited when I saw that.
As for the Halberd, I am a derp. I've heard it before but I had never seen it before! It looks AWESOME and I love how the color of the edges actually means something (aka rank) instead of just, this is an awesome color (which it is, but still, you get my point).
No, YOU'RE the best. I may have challenged you but YOU'RE the one who pulled it off, and to boot, to your standards as well! I'm so glad you are proud of this drawing because damnit woman, you deserve to be proud of this! I wubss you too

Bloody hell, I can't even begin to imagine how much of a pain it must've been to draw/colour all of those scales. o.O I remember seeing an incomplete version of this once before and even back then it already looked like a ton of work. Methinks you have the patience of a Buddhist monk.
Still, the result is definitely worth all of the effort it must've taken. I like the way both characters are positioned, too. They seem to be standing very close to each other, which kind of highlights the importance of their bond. Not sure if that was intentional or not, but to someone who has read the story, it's a very nice touch.
