Totally... Normally PRSs don't turn my head but I had never seen a Gold Top one before.

Personally, I don't really like the ones with opaque finishes. I like the wood grain to show through. But, this goldtop really looks good.

This is another fantastic image. The detail is amazing. Great dof again. That looks like a PRS guitar, which is a very nice instrument. I love the colours in this image, and that lighting creates a superb atmosphere.

Quality shot.

Take care,
Yan

That is a PRS, alright. He used a baritone jazzmaster for a couple songs but this was the workhorse.

Yes. PRS are brilliant guitars. They have such a lovely tone. Excellent build quality too.

BTW - I've just ordered a Nikon 50mm F1.8D AF Nikkor Lens from Amazon for £98. I should get it on Thursday, express delivery. Once I get this lens I doubt I'll need any others. Besides my camera bag can't hold any more.

I'm looking forward to doing some experimenting with it. Hopefully, it will give me a spark of inspiration. Thanks for the recommendation.

I think you will find it to be VERY useful.

It is a "swiss army knife" kinda lens: Usable in almost any situation.

Indeed. I can't wait.

This is one of my shots where I tried to get that background blur [link] I was using the standard Nikon 18-55mm lens.

That works.

The technique (or effect, rather) that you are discussing is called Depth of Field.

For good depth of field, you want a lens zoomed out (or a prime) at the highest aperture setting.

Your 50mm 1.8 is going to be AMAZING at achieving this.

Thanks.

Yes, I know. That's what caught my eye about your concert photos - the amazing "dof".

I just got the f1.8 lens. I haven't really tried it out yet. Auto-focus doesn't work with my D40 though, but I can manual focus okay. I'll probably keep it locked at 1.8, but will do some experimenting first. Probably Abstract type of images.

If I get any decent results, I'll upload them.

Cheers,
Yan

Well, should you upgrade your camera body to one with a built-in motor (ex: D90, D80), you will find that your new lens can autofocus really well.

Manual focus is still fun though and sometimes necessary, so it is a good skill to have.
