A great example of unexpected balance! If this were simply binary black/white, the balance would have to be more symmetrical, but you've balanced the intensities. The dark sky isn't as dark as the wall is white (at least not on my monitor), so there's a symmetry of effect.

I tried looking at it upside down, and the effect is very different -- not so much balance but dynamic tension.

Even if darkness and light aren't equal in that image, it feels like a great image of balance to me.

Thank you, yes I really like this image and I'm really glad like it also! It does, for some strange reason, feel very well balanced. Not sure if it will work the other way round with white at the top and black at the bottom - it will probably have a completely different feel and emotion attached to it. Thanks for your comment!
