Description

Halszkasawan.
Digital, 2018.

I'm slowly appreciating the joys of digital sketching and there's no better way to warm up than drawing a dino, especially if it's a cute little critter like Halszkaraptor.

Of course I had to make it swan-mimicking because otherewise there's no point in drawing it at all.
I don't think that this pose is actually realistic for the animal but the concept won over some realistic features. As always. Sue me.

Little trivia – when it comes to digital sketches I just love how makes this sort of 'diagram-like' doodles so I've tried to embrace this feature. Hope he doesn't mind. I really hope so.

To the next time, folks.

This is an absolutely fantastic study! I've yet to see a lot of "creative" posing with Halszkaraptor, and I must say yours breaks the mold in an excellent way!

When I remembered the original photo I couldn't just leave it there without trowing a little Halszka in the middle

would webbed feet work?
i am curious of any aquatic birds today that DON'T have it but i am not too sure

I really don't know.
For the kind of behavior I've depicted, webbed feet are perhaps a must (as told me).

I'm still inclined towards webbed feet but not to a complete extent - something like a magpie goose rather than a true swan

Dipper birds don't have webbbed feet. They used their wings to propel themselves in water. In fact dippers are quite unusual aquatic birds, they belong to passerine family a.k.a the songbirds. I drew my halzskaraptor based on dippers....

thanks
oh i think i have seen those, they are adorable, but i can see why they are odd aquatic birds, they seem to be more recent to the whole water thing compared to things like swans, duck & geese

Yeah, i mean the duck kind existed since the time of the non avian dinosaurs and we are lacking evidence of passerine evolution...

Woah, from the creative paleoartist himself! Thank you Joschua!

My doubt is that I'm not sure how the weight is distributed, so I think that it should be a little more underwater than a real swan.
Without even talking about webbing those feet or not...
But the concept was too good so I just went for it.

Yeah, I would also think that the body would be a little deeper in water
