Hahahahaha... but it's so true. Has a lot to do with Manga being a self-taught art, doesn't it? Some people draw good x or amazing y at the expense of everything else. Shojo is worse in this respect though, you can be so "dreamy" as to have every line fade into white space and miscellaneous screentone anyway.
Then again some improve and evolve with time. Look at Slam Dunk...
I always thought the low-votes-equals-cut policy of Jump was a bit abrupt. Not much of a chance for people to be nurtured, eh?
Just goes to say the best way to rise up in the Manga industry is through the doujin market. People like CLAMP seem to have a strong identity and sense of direction from the start, and the popularity of their works means they don't have to compromise on creative control.
AAnnd that's about all I know about the Manga industry right there. Rocks to see people actually thinking about that stuff though. A lotta fankids out there have no idea...

yeah, shueisha seems to be kind of in a rush when cutting out series. however, they do get a lot of new ones with interesting premise in, so they're not entirely at fault for having a "if you keep getting low votes, better make way for the new ones that might get higher votes" policy.

But it still seems unforgiving. The pulled-out-of-your-ass quality of a lot of plots in Manga as they either establish themselves as regular or come to their end is a turnoff for me.
