For my thesis adviser; this is probably my best feather painting of all time so far. (You can probably guess that this one was my favorite to do.)

My adviser has kept me on the right path for my thesis project for nearly three years. He has given me enough insight to put the pieces together, encouraged me to figure things out on my own, and, sometimes, has helped me keep my feet on the ground, figuratively speaking. The birds here are all life birds that I've bee able to add to my list during my time at ISU. Some, like the Blackburnian Warbler (top) and Black-throated Blue Warbler (bottom), I found on my own from local tips and a little bit of luck. Others like the Blue-headed Vireo (second from top) and Hooded Warbler (second from bottom) I found as a direct result of taking his Avian Biology class during my first semester.

His guidance is no less critical now that I am in the final stages of my project and preparing to defend and graduate this fall and winter. We will continue to collaborate even after I graduate, since we are making plans to have my thesis published as a journal article once it is done. His wife is also on campus a lot, both to help run the collections lab where we keep all our preserved specimens, and as a leader of the local Audubon chapter whose walks I greatly enjoyed and learned from during my time living around campus. Both of them will be able to enjoy it once I pass it along.
