12 x 16 oil on canvasI don't normally like to use other people's photos for reference, but I did with this painting as a special favor for a friend. The photo was a beautiful barn photo by James Neeley Photography. Many thanks to him for allowing me to use it.

It looks so cozy. I though it was a house but for the roof. Looks like it would be a neat barn fixed into a house to live in. I like the fence. I like all the windows. I think I am just a country girl... Although I was raised in the city! lol K.C. MO

The house I live in they say use to be used as a barn for the ranch hands on the ranch behind our house. There is not one straight angle in the house. ha Most of it is adobe covered in white clap board. It is about 70years old. And some places I can surely tell! lol

That is the problem with using a photo reference like that. I changed a lot, put over 45 hours into painting it - but still feel that most of the credit belongs to the photographer. *sigh* Why I normally don't even look at anyone else's photos

A photo can help us to paint but it can be a trap, I often feel that with my paintings from photos.
So It is why I like to make a fast detailed sketch at first and to make the colored version I try to forget the photo. I also change colors and atmosphere... and things.
A painting is not a photo
