Description 9 x 12 Oil on Canvas

Decided to do one more painting of this little guy but in a different pose. I turned the canvas for this painting as well, and once I was getting close to being done I realized that it needed something on the bottom for interest. So I added the fence. Not sure if I like it yet - will have to think about it.

Thanks Michael.  Aren't they just the cutest birds!?   I see them around here a lot - and in Yellowstone Park too.   There are areas where I look early in the spring - watching for their arrival, and areas later on in the summer that will be heavily populated with the youngsters.  The males are such a bright flash of blue, but the females are quite pretty too with their more subtle colors

I think you did a great job on this one. The wire is a nice addition, as *CarolynYM said it does draw your eye up to the fluffy cute bird.

Just the oddball me, this is so dramatic. feels like a symbol of hope and freedom from a concentration camp. Maybe because we don't have ranches here with barbed wires, the only time I see them is when they use it to as a barricade against anti-government demonstrators. I like this piece though, sorry I have a different sentiment, I'm from the other side of the world.

Love how you rendered them soft feathers. Excellent work as always Pam

That is interesting. It just empathizes that all art, even realistic, can mean different things to different people. Now, I look at it and it seems very rural to me, and makes me think of driving on a backroad somewhere and enjoying the scenery and wildlife. Lots of weeds and sagebrush, maybe some deer or antelope. There are a lot of barbed wire fences out in the country here - and you always see little birds sitting on the posts.

That's a lovely scenery you've pictured out, too bad we haven't much of it here. Wildlife can only be seen at the zoo, but we do have birds perching on our backyard tree every day.

A lot of the East Coast of the US is like that. Just too many people, too many cities. The west is different though. A lot of wild country left - places where there is no roads or houses, and the only way to see it is horseback or hiking. Miles and miles of no houses, no roads, no people. But I know that there are not words to make you understand what it is like - you would have to see it, feel it. Places where you can hear a lizard hit the ground from 10 feet away....total silence. No background noise of cars, people, no airplanes in the sky. Just nature. The valley I drive through to get to Yellowstone Park this winter has scattered ranches and homes. But it is not heavily populated by a long shot. This winter there were herds of literally thousands of elk along the road. And further away from the hills - thousands of deer. Literally - thousands. I wish I could show you, or somehow have words to make you feel it.

Some people take it for granted - or just don't really care one way or the other. But I love being out away from people. And I love seeing wildlife. I could (and have) see a hundred deer in a day, and I still get excited when I see number 101. And I probably always will.

You are very lucky indeed Now I know why I admire your paintings, it does gives a sense of nature's serenity and harmony, even without having seeing it firsthand. Thank you so much for posting your works, they are very inspiring.

I am glad that you get that out of my paintings . I think that art reflects a lot of the inner soul and your experiences - and I have spent a lot of my life out with nature. I know I prefer that to the superficial city life - although I have met plenty of people who would be lost without the trappings of civilization, and who you could take to the most beautiful place in the world, and they would be looking for a restaurant or bathroom or something. hahaha
