Finally finished drawing up the lovely ladies from Super Mario! I'm really happy with the results, though my personal fav is Pauline, if only because she gave me more trouble than I thought translating her into my style before I finally managed to get it. She TOL. uwu

Okay so anyhow, some headcanon for these gals! (side note: if you don't wanna read the headcanons but wanna see more art, just scroll all the way to the bottom!)

Pauline: Tallest of the ladies here, Pauline is the Mayor of Metro Kingdom. Despite Metro Kingdom working more under a democracy, Pauline has upheld her position as leader for years and that doesn’t seem to be coming to an end any time soon: it’ one of those “always elected mayor” sort of deals. It’s no wonder why she’s kept her position for so long though; Pauline’s as business minded as she is politically competent, and the only thing sharper than her mind are her words. She rarely beats around bushes, much preferring to get to the point of the topic at hand, which can sometimes lead to impatience. It makes her a bit of an intimidating person to interact with; the height certainly doesn’t help. Regardless of her somewhat no-nonsense nature, Pauline is kind and wants the best for her citizens.

Daisy: Shortstuff of the bunch but by far the most athletic, Daisy’s the sporty princess of Sarasaland, the oldest of 5 siblings, and Princess Peach’s BFF. Daisy doesn’t mind wearing gowns and dresses but she prefers casual clothing if only because they’re easier to run around in. Aside from being a bit of an adrenaline junky, Daisy’s as sweet as she can be, but sometimes she may be seen as a bit too friendly: she often forgets the concept of personal space, given how little of it she’s experienced living with such a big family. She’s also a bit… okay a lot oblivious; she isn’t stupid by any means, but some things may fly over her head. Romance is a big one in that aspect. Regardless, she’s a very well meaning young lady and will be a fine ruler once her parents step down.

Peach: The kindly ruler of Mushroom Kingdom and half-sister of Rosalina. Technically, Peach is still a princess despite ruling her kingdom, but this is because her father hadn’t stepped down as king. But with how very absent he is and overall irresponsible, she may as well be crowned queen with how much she’s picking up his slack. For all of her kindness and legendary patience, Peach is a bit of a lonely soul. She’s fairing much better now thanks to being surrounded by her friends, but before then she didn’t really have anyone after her mother passed on.

Rosalina: Demi-goddess of the Mushroom Universe, Rosalina’s purpose is to watch over and protect the cosmos. She is half divine half human, and as such she’s possibly the most powerful (technically mortal) woman in existence. Being half mortal, she won’t live forever, but she has a very long life span: she’ll probably live for a few thousand years before succumbing to age. There was a sort of rule in place to where she wasn't allowed to interact much with the inhabitants of mortal worlds, but after the events of Galaxy, those rules either no longer apply or she's made up a new set (being the current protector of the galaxy and all), and so she frequently visits the Mushroom World when she can. She and Peach are half-sisters by virtue of sharing a mother.

Some extra stuff (gets a bit lengthy but I added it anyhow uwu):

-If you’re curious about their heights, Pauline’s 6′6, Rosalina’s 6′2, Peach is 5′8, Daisy is 5′5.

-Pauline, Luigi, and Mario are childhood friends! Granted, there’s a 5 year difference between them, but when they were little they were basically the grand trio of the neighborhood. Maybe Pauline babysat the boys and that’s what eventually sparked their friendship: the big sister they never had.

-Peach and Rosalina are half-blood humans where as Pauline and Daisy are full-blood. Rosalina, as mentioned in the art post, is a demi-god: part god part human, while Peach is part Mushling (a Mushroom Person) part human.

-To go off the one above, Rosalina and Peach are half-sisters with Rosalina being the elder one. I’m thinking maybe 5 -10 year difference, maybe more… I dunno yet! But anyway, I’m still kinda on the fence of making them blood related but I do like the idea enough to entertain it. The idea is that the two have the same mother. When Rosalina was young, her mother was forced to go back to earth by Rosalina’s father, though I’m thinking it’s more out of necessity and not actual malice. He loved his mortal wife, but he knew she wouldn’t survive their realm long, so for her own safety he sent her back. I’m gonna assume that there was maybe some sort of rule to not interfere with mortal worlds unless absolutely necessary, so that could be a reason why they simply couldn’t visit the woman.

The human woman eventually found love again in a charming Mushling prince, whom she married and eventually became his queen, which soon after they had Peach. I’d imagine that Rosalina, despite not being able to visit her mother, was able to keep tabs on her to make sure she was doing okay, so she knew of Peach’s existence. While she may have been a bit jealous because Peach was able to actively be with their mother, she was also sad by the knowledge of having a baby sister, but never actually being able to meet her. Her watching over their lives is how Rosalina found out about their mother’s death.

-Peach and Rosalina’s mom fell ill to a disease that, at the time, didn’t have a cure. She was bed-ridden for a large portion of the time, too weak to move around, so Peach would often take to staying bedside and keeping her
company however she could. The King searched furiously for a doctor, any doctor, to save his wife, but it was no use. She eventually succumbs to the disease and passes peacefully in her sleep, Peach curled up beside her. The child doesn’t realize her mother’s gone until she notices her not breathing.

The King… he’s not the same after that. He takes to the drink for comfort, sometimes have even sought out more harmful substances, anything to keep his mind off the emptiness he felt. He barely looked at Peach anymore: she looked too much like her mother, it hurt to be near her, so he often ignored her when sober. If drunk he was more willing to interact with her but their conversations were very one-sided, of him giving false promises or giving Peach gifts she didn’t need nor want. The only thing she wanted was her father being there for her, and he no longer was, too far gone in his own demons that he overlooked his child’s struggles. Soon this spiraled into the King being entirely unfit for his title: he used the state’s treasury to purchase his endless booze, go on expensive trips, buy meaningless things. He ignored his people plights, such as when the Goombas begged for protection from the ever increasing raids on the borders but he never gave it to them. He skipped diplomatic meetings, ignored calls to action.

A once loved king soon became a hated one. It’s here that Peach slowly begun to take the mantle of ruler of the Mushroom kingdom despite being so young, barely in her teens.

Peach manages to bring the Mushroom Kingom back to prosperity and she is firmly held as the true ruler of their kingdom, but it comes at the expense of a estranged father and a lost childhood. Peach was quite the lonely soul for a few years. And Rosalina sees it all.

-I like to think that Peach and Rosalina’s mother used to tell the young Peachy to look to the stars for guidance if she ever felt lost. Peach has a strong association of stars to her mother, and even after her death that little saying stuck with her. In the late hours of the night, Peach would often sit on her balcony and talk to the stars, almost as if they were the only friends she had during her period of being alone. She always felt like someone truly was listening, but she didn’t know how right she was: Rosalina always listened. And she’d do things to help Peach feel like the stars were responding: a bright star here, a shooting star there, a bunch of constellations seeming to suddenly appear, anything to reach her baby sister from her place among the stars themselves. I’d imagine Rosalina desperately wanted to meet the princess, and the events of Galaxy presents the opportunity she never would have gotten otherwise.

-Daisy met Peach during a diplomatic meeting between their Kingdoms. Daisy had accompanied her parents on this trip, who claimed it would be a good learning experience for her. She was pretty surprised (I’d imagine they all were) to see a princess about her age taking place of the king she was told they were seeing, and when asked about said king’s whereabouts she had flinched before saying that “he’s… unavailable, so I will be in his stead.” There was some doubts at first, mainly because a teenager was in charge of diplomatic affairs, but Peach had shown herself very capable and basically leading the talks for trade and establishing an alliance. Her parents and their advisers were very impressed but Daisy was far more curious: why was she the one doing this? Where was the king?

She got her answer in the form of a very drunken king later that evening, barging into the dining hall while the castle staff treated the princess and her guests to dinner. And Daisy wasn’t the only one who noticed just how tense Peach got at the sight of her father. The quiet but pleasant dinner had become loud and underline with a tension only the king was unaware of, laughing and boasting and calling for the servants to wheel out the kegs. Her parents accepted (mostly out of politeness) but Daisy saw the princess excuse herself, which she hastily did as well. She asked the princess to show her to the guest room (under the guise that she forgot where it was), and when the two had gotten to the room the Sarasa princess allowed impulse to override any decorum. When Peach turned to leave she had grabbed hold of her wrist and when the wide-eyed princess whipped around to look at her, Daisy stumbles over her words before finally asking, “D-do you, like… do you need a hug? It kinda seems like it.”

It dumbfounds her when Peach, after a moment of stunned silence, basically throws herself in her arms and cries so hard it soaks her shirt through. It marks the beginning of their life-long friendship.
